Headlight washer cover replacement

Can anyone tell me the easiest way to replace the headlight washer cover?
Mine flew off two weeks ago, the new one arrived this week but I cannot get the washer arm to come out of the hole enough to fit the new one - is there a trick to this?

I understand that this is held in place by a spring, when the fluid pressure overcomes the spring it pushes the washer head out, then as the pressure subsides the spring pulls the washer back in?

How then do I get the washer head to stay out so I can re-fit the new cover?

Will be disconnecting it as soon as it is done so I don’t loose anymore covers at £35 each!

should just pull up - pretty stiff though.

Are you sure the fitting is still on the spray nozzle? Mine had broken off so had to replace that as well, which is a bumper off job - simple given the instructions elsewhere on the forum

Thanks for the advice, the fitting is still there so should be easy to clip the new one on, I just didnt know how much force I should apply to pulling the washer out of the bumper without damaging it.

spose you could also get someone to pull the wash lever in the car and try and catch it :P

might be a bit messy though...

I fitted mine you do not need it to pop up, it just clips on...I think two small clips on either side of the washer.

Otherwise it would pop-off every time it went back in :poke:

I've had three of these done now. I get the dealer to do it for me. They usually activate the washer and hold it when it comes up. They also add an adhesive after the first replacement also fell off.

Btw, I think it's slightly cheaper if you get the stealer to paint it, rather than wait for a pre-painted one to come from Germany.

I have also lost one - dealer replaced with colour matched and clipped it on when it arrived in stock. He said he had had several do this - Z4 problem?
