Headlight upgrades

Hi folks,

Did a search with not much coming back.. Clearly the Z4M comes with xenons as standard (and i find them pretty good tbh) and I also know that the inner lights are 'dummy' units that don't do much other than be side lights.. Just wondering about the following:

- decent upgrades for the existing angel eyes that aren't Chinese bulbs that only last 2 minutes
- any upgrades that mean all 4 lights can work (e.g. As a flash to pass lamp or extra main beam lamp??)

I think anything you may want to do would involve opening the headlight which from what I hear is almost impossible without doner lights. I wouldn't bother with another high beam as the M xenons are bixenon which looks much better imo. I can understand wanting some proper halos though. The blank projector dummy is opaque so the headlight would need to be split. I don't think you can get it out through the back, although im not 100% on that.

i find the stock headlights awesome, shame to open them up just to get the outer rings working..... leave them alone imo....

Black with clear repeater look spot on. Any silver/ginger look pants imo :(
 
Same headlights as any other facelift Z4 with xenons. Maybe best posting in the E85/86 section for a wider audience?

I agree the headlights themselves are awesome and pretty clever with the auto range function - works a treat on mine... Just a shame that the halo lights / angel eyes are a bit limp. I really don't wish to bust into a headlight unit just for that so will probably leave alone.. What I have seen from searches looks a bit compromised honestly - I might leave well alone of now... :x

Well I'll definitely be opening one up in the near future so I'll report the results when I do.

Hey Sim Simma, how did you manage to open these? did you go for the dremmel or oven bake?

Of course you can open Z4 headlights. I did it over 5 years ago with the luxury of a donor set so I kept the flanges of rear and lens didn't have to mate flush faces. Since I've converted several by dremelling apart without issue

As for OP I'd not split facelift as the real purpose is to retrofit AE or remove amber indicators, neither of which are required in this instance.

As for second light unit the flash to pass was eliminated on facelift as the xenon technology was change. Prefacelift they could not flash so had a separate inner as a flash to pass (and secondary main) although it's yellow bulb and poor light output makes it pointless.
 
I've taken halo bulb out but it's fixed to plastic body
I've seen that some take them out and retrofit brighter bulbs to me I'd like to do that;)

now lets see a pic of it all sealed back up and post that detail up close please....
