Headlight seals

I’ve got the dreaded condensation in my headlights :thumbsdown:

Looking on EBay the seals I need come with the dust covers for £22.

I just need the seals, so am I being a tight Scotsman or can the seals be bought separately?

Also can someone kindly give me the part numbers for both sides so I can try Sopers with their discount for a price

If you are really tight: dont buy new, swap the left to the right and the right to the left, they reverse presenting a new face to the sealing ring? Combined with a thin layer of grease its as good as new (ish)

Solved my issue but only when I fully dried out the casings as the slightest bit of moisture shows

Did you dry your lights in situ? If so what was your method?

I did as bigwinn suggests and also put some thick string in behind the seal to pack it out a bit.
To dry the casing, I used a piece of sponge on a flexible grabber to mop out the worst of the water, then used Mrs Wife's best hair dryer to finish off.

No I needed mine off as they had broken clips to fix, so an overnight sat on the radiator did the trick

I did try to dry in situ but the missus caught me using her decent hairdryer so that didn’t go down well

Also once done worth getting a couple of silicon bags in the back of the lights

The ones from lateral flow tests are pretty good now

The only snag with silicon bags is that if they burst, they will remove the reflective chrome layer from inside the casing. I think it was someone on this forum that found that out the hard way

I’ve met a few who suffer from it. Not just fellow Scots. Thankfully me and the OH don’t as my bank balance reflects after the latest black fri/sat/sun/mon spendfest :lol:

Very clean 09 plate Astra Coupe, 1 owner 47k FSH lots of sh!te out there atm at big money. Was cheaper to buy from a dealer than private and do work required. He’s well chuffed. Looked at a Z4 2.2 insurance was mental

It’s very clean, went too look at 2 private sales on the way up. One was 4 different colours on the one side and underneath and brakes etc looked like it’d been parked in the sea. Granted, 6 months newer but £370 DEARER, next one 65k NO service history 4 different tyres, brakes front and rear as advisories and needed a timing belt etc because of no history was £150 cheaper but the cost of all the works made it £700 dearer still with no history. This one will be serviced and have advisory free MOT on pick up. No brainier for me tbh but definitely not cheap.

I’d dismissed this car 3 times because I thought it was WAY too dear but on researching the market on these it was definitely good value but a grand more than I’d have placed it at a year ago.

Guy has 21 cars on his forecourt, 15 waiting for service and MOT then collection. Says folk will think he’s closing down when all the cars go :lol:
