Headlight restoration

You may or may not have seen my thread about the best headlights for a sterling grey zed (http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=90241&start=15)

The front of my car was looking pretty dull and upon recommendation from someone in the above thread I went out today and bought a Meguiars Headligjt Restoration kit.

Initially I wasn't convinced that it would make much difference, after all how can sanding down plastic actually work right??

After 30 minutes of sanding, polishing and buffing the results are in...

Keep the pad damp/wet and your done in under 3 minuets per light do all my cars with this even if they look ok its suprising the difference it makes :thumbsup:
 
My lenses were too far gone for just a good polish. The sanding kit took away the top layer of scratches
 
Ive done far worse than what yours were i,l try and find some photos.
The cutting paste has the same effect as sand paper but without the elbow grease.

I remember the first time I sanded/polished a headlight. You really do think this will never work and how much is a new one?!
Comes up a treat though!

I assume all kits work similar, you cut away the top layer then apply paste/compound of some sort and buff it back to life. Not tackled this yet myself but it's on my to-do list. My question is after you've buffed it back to clarity, is there any sort of protection that should be applied? Much like waxing a car?

yep. that should do ya.
kits available for z4 although could be cheaper to get a couple of sheets....
used on all my motors and saved a few quid on replacement glass!
swings n roundabouts
