Headlight Problem

Hi there!

I've been running the Z now for a few years and still loving it. Until, my halogen headlights decided to point directly at the ground....

When I turn on the ignition I can't see and hear the lights initialising up and down. The small adjuster wheel does nothing either.
I checked the suspension as suggested in other posts for the levelling arms but there are no sensors/arms there! Just the wiring loom connectors, I assume halogens don't have these.

For the time being I have just wound the lights up on the hex key adjusters but not ideal.

A while back I cleaned out some condensation from the passenger headlight, but this was before the other issues.

Has anyone had anything similar? I'd appreciate any help!

Thanks

Todd

I have no idea about this as I don't have xenons and have never heard of the issue, but perhaps a little evening bump will attract some positive attention for you

Always nice when a new member introduces themselves with a pic or two in the newbies section as well, when you get a moment.

Try opening the back access panel via the wheel arch to see if anything is broke inside. Only xenons have the suspension self levelling.

It sounds as he had halogens as he has the adjuster wheel on the dash?

PS I have halogens and they do lift / raise a couple of cm's when I turn the key

Thanks for the replies, I'll get some pics loaded when I get to a proper PC ratehr than this silly iPad.

I definitely have halogens with a dash adjuster wheel. There don't seem to be any sensors on the suspension although the lights did seem to move up and down on startup.

I wonder if it's electrical. Do both light motors run off a common supply?

Can't help with your problem but yeah mine does the headlight adjusting thing when you turn on the ignition, a lot more than a few cm, more like start at the ground then level up to the normal driving position, halogens for me as have the wheel, guess this is normal to do that?

Oops, sorry... Didn't read your post properly

My halos set themselves too on start up. Still can't help, but at east you are getting some responses

I almost feel rude saying it as you've likely already checked... but that comment makes me think 'fuse'?

The fuse was my first thought too, but sadly not the issue. Unless there's 2?!

I'll recheck the connections tomorrow just incase it's something daft.
Is there a magic controller box hidden away somewhere?

RealOEM doesn't seem to have much.

Clearly not the individual headlights as its both.
As said above no self levelling controlled by suspeNsion sensors in halogens, just stepper motors cycling to the correct position.

I'd therefore be looking at the LCM module (in effect the light switch) especially as you indicate the manual adjustment doesn't work either.

Not DIY and will need specialist to check it out and if faulty replace and recode. (Holds mileage and other stuff too so not a straight swap out.
