Headlight problem

I have a 2004 Z4 with a 3.0 engine in it. Trouble is that not that long ago I noticed a very slight bit of condensation in the left front headlight but I didn't think much of it at the time. Well not long after that, and weather being very wet, the condensation isn't just a bit and the headlight is now out. Looks like something isn't sealed, but getting to much of anything is going to be loads of fun.

I think this is likely the high output headlights. I checked at the local O'Reilly's and to my shock it was $90 just to replace the bulb and they didn't have it in stock. Worse that that the plastic headlight assembly might be damaged or cracked allowing the moisture in which may have caused the thing to fail in the first place. I have a local body shop that can likely do the work, but they don't have the time to parts scrounge and frankly I wouldn't expect them to either.

Only had the Z4 a few months an this is my education in BMW parts. Anyone have a source for reasonable parts (ok that may not even apply here but I can dream) for the Z4 that I can mail order if need be and also if there are any salvage yards that have Z4 parts. If there are any in the Dallas and Fort Worth area that's even a bigger bonus. I can go get them. Thanks for the help

Hello and welcome :D

pretty common. The seal on cover on the back of the headlight has most likely been pinched or perished. New cover and seal over here is about £8. you have to get the moisture out first though. Some use hairdryers... I used that and tissues as well as driving for a long journey with the cover off and the lights on... dont leave it stationary with the engine on or you could melt the lights :o

next time do a search

Well it gets even better. The BMW dealer just gave me a quote. The total is $2411.53 They want over a $1000 just for a headlight assembly, $520 for a control unit, and $240 for a friggin bulb. Any advise on sources for aftermarket parts that work??? This is over 10% of what I paid for the car to fix a headlight and if this is the norm I am likely to dump the car and take the loss as stupid tax. Shame because I am enjoying the way it drives, but I refuse to be held up like this everytime a bulb goes out.

Thats BS! Call around to other dealers. Get the parts and do it yourself. They are used to turn-key operators who sign the dotted line and then give the bill to the husband. :poke:

If you dont mind me asking, where are you from? Sounds like the dealership near my house :P

Well I am in the Ft Worth Texas area, and I agree its no way to get me to want another BMW. With something this small, I just wonder how bad it will be when something far more major breaks.
