Alright have just got a z4m coupe and pas side headlight not working got new bulbs have swapped from drivers side and still nothing but all works fine when on drivers side didn't just swap bulbs done bulb holders as well headlight did have water in any ideas? Thanks

A hello and an introduction always starts a conversation...

Question - If it's not the bulb it could be any of the connectors or wires (condensation is quite normal in these lights, but all depends on how much water is there? As it shouldn't be in the back near the electrics, more so in the front of the lens)

Best option is long winded and you will need to take the bumper off and remove the failed light to plug into the working side - this will help you pin point the issue

Yeh sorry forgot my manners alright to you all hope you'll ok? Got this 3 weeks ago today 2006 z4m coupe headlight wasn't working when I bought it fella I bought from reckons he went through puddle and blew the light he had the thing that plugs into the headlight out already. I took that into BMW to get right xenon bulb nearly fell over when he told me the price now this is no bullshit £162.00. So got some off ebay and tried them yesterday they work but but not when plugged into nr side how will swapping the headlights make a difference the sidelight and indicators both work its just the main headlight both the things that twist into the lights work. Cheers for you reply earlier

Have you got any pictures? :)

It's compulsory to post pictures of your zed ;)

Welcome,
You have 2 choices 1) remove the headlight and plug it into the good side. This eliminates everything except the headlight unit itself. You can pull the loom out the access panel on the rhs enough to test it.
If the light doesn't work on the rhs then it's the ballast (on the underside of the light) or igniter (on the back of the bulb) I'll bet the ballast is broke...

2) take it to an auto elec and run diagnostics and take the big bill.

Btw - no touching connections with xenons on....deadly...

Right so just plugging bulb into the thing that twist into rear of headlight and switching lights on it wouldn't work it would have to be fitted in to headlight for it to work yeh? And Yeh have some photos cant work out how to get on here though.

No not messing just trying to get me head round these lights so they aren't like the old style lights where just the bulb in the bulb holder turn lights on and it'd come on these are like a unit the none working headlight did have quite a bit of water sitting in it but the indicator and sidelight still work.

I hope for your personal safety you are not messing with live xenons.
Your post concerns me given the voltages of xenon..

Of course it should be fully connected although it has a built in earth so should strike up without being locked in place, but the bulb is not broken and as posted above the fault lies elsewhere. Given you mention a lot of water in it then it's possible the light unit internals are badly corroded.

You have tomdo some component swapping next.
