Headlight Issues

Hi all I just recently purchased a 2006 Z4 3.0i from an older gentleman who rarely drove so I’ve been going through and replacing all the old components from it sitting over the years, last night the Drivers side low beam stopped working and i thought it just needed the bulb replaced but this morning it was working fine and the passenger low beam stopped working. So I turned both lights off and when I flipped them back on neither of them worked, I then tried using the high beams and none of those worked, after flicking the lights off and turning them back on everything worked fine. Really confused what’s going on with my lights and what the cause might be since it’s random which light stops working each time I turn them on, sometimes nothing works at all. Just seeking help and answers!

Hmmmm, are your headlights OEM Xenon's or do they have aftermarket HIDs/LEDs fitted in the OEM halogen headlights? I ask this because it reminds me of when an HID kit fails or when someone uses non-CANBUS HIDs/LEDs and the car's computer checks the current and it's wrong so it shuts off. Then they work when you turn them off and on again.

It's either your bulbs or your ballasts failing. They're usually pretty robust so it's unusual that both are going out at random. The igniters could also fail as well. If the light coming out of your bulbs look pink (failing Osram bulb characteristic) or quite cold bluish white (failing Philips bulbs characteristic) it's your bulb.

I doubt it would be your wiring loom but check that out as well to make sure no rodents have chewed on anything.

Since both headlights are having issues, I'd rule out the bulbs and ballasts, those would fail individually, not both sides at the same time. I'd check the light module / light switch. Try googling about these.
