Headlight Issues on 2006 SI

Hi all,

New member here and I hope someone can point me in the right direction with this.

I currently have a 2006 3.0 SI auto and the previous owner upgraded the lights to HID lights. Both the left and right side both have an issue where the light on the inside of the headlamp cluster just constantly flickers very slightly and will not come on. The light on the outside of the cluster works fine.

Occasionally there is a light warning on the dash however this comes and goes and never seems to affect the actual lights which are not coming to life.

I have attached a very poor picture I just took in the dark which hopefully may give a bit of help.

If anyone can advise what I need to do to fix this it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

Isn’t the inner light the main beam on a non xenon headlight?

If so does it flicker when you switch from dipped to main beam or when you first turn the dipped beam on?

Most likely issue with flickering aftermarket Xenon kits is that a non CAN bus compatible kit has been used. Might be worth buying another kit that claims to be CAN bus compatible and swap them over - last time I bought a kit they were very cheap.

Thanks, I will check out the suggestion and see about swapping them over.

Alternatively I still have the original bulbs so may well just put those back in for a short term fix if it's not much work. I have never installed / taken out HID bulbs before so not sure how much work it is over a standard bulb swap?

The Xenon bulb itself fits into the same housing in the same way as the standard halogen bulb, but probably has a thick cable coming out of the back of it going to the ballast box with an inline connector. The ballast box has a lighter weight set of wires coming out of it and going to a connector that plugs into the normal bulb connector and is left loose in the back of the headlight unit.

Evening all. I'm not a technical person so didn't want to take over this thread with an issue which may not be connected. But it sounds very similar to the issue I just had today!

I have a video of it on my one, if that sounds similar!?

Theog - from looking at your video I would say it’s the same issue but just with the other light.

Rallychris- thanks for the pic, now I just need to find a how to on how to get to the light to fix it.

Interesting timing. Ok cheers for this. I may print off this post and give it to my local garage to see if they can have a wangle.

Evening all.. so my garage suggested before buying to switch the bulbs / gear from the working side to the non working side before buying anything (simple but good idea). Turns out my issue was with the bulb itself, so had it changed over.... all good my end now :)
