Headlight inner parts color

Hi guys

I'm replacing my headlight lens

After I took the lens off

I found these parts are gray instead of black

Wonder what's is your headlight color of the same parts? My car is black so I assume it should come with black inner color, the lens were blur when I got the car so I couldn't tell till now

3.0l came with the silver innards, whereas the 2.5l and under came with black.

Xenons for the facelift came with Silver (chrome,) Stainless Steel, Black or Grey inserts.

The grey ones are really hard to find. Do your headlights still have the large white sticker on the side with part numbers on it? Usually the sticker is still there but the numbers have completely faded.

I'm looking at the ETK and there are only 2 options for facelift: stainless steel and chrome. S. steel for xenons and chrome for halogens. I have never heard of or seen grey inserts. These were probably faded black if someone has seen them

I stand corrected, there were black xenons for the 2.5Si of course  but still can't find grey ones in the ETK :D

Yes, they are not listed but I believe the part number is 63127162727 & 63127162728.

It's hard to find good photo's of the headlights with a Google search. However the ones that can be found are not the shiny black. They look dark and dull.

I did some research and finally found that part number. This is an USA Z4 3.0i N52 specific headlight. This model in USA was what Z4 2.5Si was in Europe and elsewhere. So the entry model with black headlights and US specific beam pattern, hence the unique part number.

I'm still not convinced in any color difference to EU black headlights, there are many photos of all these and you can see the black in a variety of shades.

I'm sure it's gray since the opposite side and broken part intersection of the plastic looks gray(grey)? Or more like gray with touch of blue. I'll check the part number

Since the 3.0 mostly have silver inner, maybe I should paint it silver

Faded black turns blueish and gets lighter - grey. It wasn't like that when the car was new, that's for sure.

Would the fading cause the textured surface?

Look at the chrome headlights and then the stainless steel. The chrome is smooth and shiny, the stainless steel is dull and textured.

It is indeed grey from factory. As I said, the broken part cross section is also grey, and on the back side of the part it is grey too, you can't have two parts faded so perfectly at same time and even inside out
