Headlight Cut Off

Drove the “new” car (2012 28i) at night for the first time at the weekend, and the headlights have a distinctly uneven cut off line on the road- the right side headlight was throwing a significantly shorter light than the left, and to me seemed not a great distance at all. The left hand light throw was a good distance. Is this normal, or likely an issue with the light unit?

No, the dip is a relatively flat cut off, hardly perceptible on the road..given your description most likely that the RH beam needs manual adjustment..

If both beams were out it could be the level sensors or ecu..but its not so unlikely

Thanks B21. Is adjustment something easily done myself, or do I need to take it in? Have had a look in the manual but can’t see anything.

Yes its pretty straightforward (having not done it)..

There's a previous discussion here..

Well, a manual re-adjustment is only required, if the headlight got removed or replaced.
Without being touched before, I assume there is an issue with the automatic adjustement unit on the right.
