Headlight Condensation

Hi guys,

Sorry to drag this one back.

I changed my bulbs and replaced new back covers for a tighter seal, however on one side the small metal spring at the back of the unit broke and I could not seal the unit with it. As a result with the cold snap I have a completely condensated headlamp. I really struggled getting the cover on and am very reluctant to do it again. I was wondering if I anyone that has solved this issue that lives in London that I can get help from?

I think I may need to order another metal spring but I am sot too sure what this exactly connects too and what part I would order.

Any other ideas or help as it looks really bad!

Thanks,

i was just about to start a new thread and found yours. i changed my side light bulbs yesterday (never again) and i also have condensation in the headlights. all the covers are back on securely so unless damp has got in whilst i was changing them i have no idea?. is it just a case of having the lights on long enough to generate enough heat to get rid of the condensation in there?

easty, you need get new back covers. the rubber seal around the cover is now old and once removed they don't have a snug fit anymore once refitted.

this cant be right ! not only do you have to dismantle your car to change a bulb you then have to purchase new parts once doing so? are you having a laugh?

after this bulb changing weekend, i now officially despise bmw.

easty - before you make any rash purchases give them a day or so to settle. Were having warm sunny days and the first sub zero nights so condensation may appear for the first time of the year on them.

If they don't dry up quickly or there is considerable condensation then ensure they are well seated or buy new hatches as peddy suggests. Some report success using non setting silicone on the seals.

IIRC your car is a 2003 right? That's over 7 years those seals have probably been working. That's not bad? I'm guessing the sponginess of the rubber has now deteriated. I need to change mine also.

i don't even remember seeing any rubber seals? but how come after all this time they have been fine whether there has been rubber seals present or not....

I had the same problem last year with condensations in the headlights. I got rid of it using my wife's hair dryer :D

I agree, I actually did buy new backs and I still have condensation on one side, complete joke and it also took me ages to change a lightbulb! You will not get it better without changing the backs and make sure that the fit is tight when you put it back on. I got my backs from Joe at Lincoln. I still have an issue though. I am taking it to the dealer soon as I do not fancy going through the whole thing again!

I got two today for £23. But I would take the seal out and put it in the other way round

The seal comes out very easily. So take it out and turn it over. So the imprint of the light will be on the other side
