Headlight - condensation + chrome peeling

I've had condensation in my NS headlight for about three weeks and finally got round to taking a look earlier. I gave it a blast with a hairdryer but then realised there was actually a puddle in the light so would have taken for ever to evaporate.

I'm not really sure how water got in, the cover seemed to be on fine but something has allowed quite a lot of water in (I have driven a lot in the rain recently).

At least as much of an issue - I notice that the chrome appears to be peeling. I thought it was dirt but it seems very black so I suspect it's given up. Looks like I'm going to have to get a new headlight.

I didn't really need anything else testing my patience with this car!

How difficult is it to get the light out? I presume the front bumper has to come off?

Yes, you have to remove the front bumper to get the lights out. Easy job, just don't break the bracket on the sides as they are very brittle.

Maybe the cover gasket is worn out? New covers are quite cheap or you could try just flipping the gasket over and see if it works.
If not there might be a crack in the housing.
Had some moisture in mine and went with new covers.

I had the same issue in one of my headlamps two winters ago. I used a tightly rolled length of tissue to dip into the bottom of my headlight (had to repeat a few times) to get the majority of the water out, then finished off with a hair dryer, reversed the cover seal and it has not returned. Only took about an hour. Hope this may work for you?

Thanks - sounds worth a try. I was looking for some tube to attach to my shop vac to suck it out at the weekend but it was so cold I packed up and went in and lit the fire!
