Silver with clear, then black with clear as a second choice. If you're thinking of spraying your current black lights though, I'd just keep them black.
When I changed from ambers to clear (with silver) it really freshened up the look and makes the car look upto modern standards.
Mr Whippy is just cheap
It is that age old facelift technique though. I got the facelift lights for my old Ford Sierra XR4x4, and it made the car look so much more modern and up to date, with clear lenses up front and smoked rear lights.
In reality, had BMW not employed this cheap 'facelift' technique, and left them orange, then no one would think it made the car look more modern.
My POV, either they purposely made them orange so when they facelifted and made them clear they looked more modern and people upgraded. OR, Bangle made them orange as a design feature (like the 2002 Ti esque rear lights which they changed for 'modern' looking LED rears), and by upgrading you are actually just buying stuff aimed at people from a marketing POV, not a design purity POV

Tis a tough one, I'd happily upgrade (and am doing) to the purer design (for flame surfacing) 107's, but to me the lights/facelift changes were not design driven, they were marketing driven... as said, I prefer the colour from a design POV, one of the main reasons I got the Z4. Timeless looks, rather than fashion following with the facelift bits
(not to say it's wrong to do it, but thats my POV and why I'm leaving well alone!)
