headlamp washer jet covers !

i am having some warenty work done to my car , at some point the headlamp washer covers have fallen out of the bumper ! at first i thought some little scrots had nicked em but the dealer recons it is a common problem especialy if you dont use "bmw approved anti freeze screen wash " has any one else had this happen? :|
 
Yes - there are a few posts on it.
2 missing sounds more theft than accident.

BMW only screenwash - how on earth does he come up with that. All it is is a cap fastened onto a pivot mechanism. It has nothing to do with whatever liquid is in the jets. Only logic I could think of is a wrong dilution that freezes just enough to hold the caps on while the system operates then breaks them?

Expect a big price for these and long wait unless you buy them blank and spray them yourself
 
cos its still under warranty they have agreed to do it for free :thumbsup: he recons cheep screen wash doesnt have the right viscosity when near freezing conditions and as such blasts them off !!! :roll:

As cj says, could just be wrong dilution or more than likely theft if both are missing. The only car I previously owned with headlamp washers had the issue of blowing the directional ball out of the holder (Renault Clio) so I was paranoid about losing the Z4's covers - I've deactivated them by removing the appropriate fuse to stop them functioning. Technically not legal if you have xenons, but since I don't I decided to do that.
 
i just remembered also when it goes in for the work they will want it all day as it is apparently a bummper off job ! dos that sound right? :|
 
Dealer is so full of bull here. As the jets activate hydraulic pressure raises them. Once raised the water squirts out of the jet onto the lights. It never touches the cover other than perhaps some overspray.The only possibility is a weak mixture freezing the cover to the bumper and distorting it as it raises, but I doubt that and on both :thumbsdown:

Covers can be fitted in less than 30 seconds with the bumper on. Pull the nozzle up with fingers or pliers clip the cover on - job done. If the washer assembly os broken it can be bumper off or through the access panel. Still a fairly quick job.

Bumper off is about 10 minutes tops and then 15 tops to put it back on (5 torx, 6 small self tapper bolts and 6 push fit clips then 2 clamps to pull off)

Rest of the day is just scheduling the workshop and ensuring you think they did a lot of work.
 
I didnt actually time it, though I know I started after lunch and was finished by 4 so probably about 2 hours... but as I said first time I done it and I took my time.
 
I had to have one of my washer assemblies replaced under the warranty as it didnt sit flush with the bumper.. and they ened up getting a new cap and painting it as they said they come as one unit :lol: So yeah the dealers will BS you every chance they get.
