Headlamp Washer 2012-MOT

Currently I have collected the majority of bits and pieces for a clear prefacelift xenon upgrade, just trying to source a passenger side lamp :headbang: Anyway my worry is that I dont have headlamp washers on my 2.5 but reading this information from Vosa'a 2012 inspection manual Im not sure I need them!

Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system. Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given.

Headlamp washers may work in conjunction with the windscreen washers (when the dipped beam headlamps are switched on) or by a separate switch.
HID lamps may be identified by:

• taking a few seconds to reach full intensity


• having a bluish tinge to the light


• having an igniter module/inverter behind the headlamp


• having ‘DCR’ marked on the headlamp lens.

HID headlamps use high voltage and extra care should be taken when inspecting these items.

Do people think that I can take the stance if I have them they must work but they dont imply you need the washers as a rule, what do people think :?
 
Same sort of problem for me, although i have halogen units/lights that i have retro fitted xenons. I have the washers, but not the auto levelling.

When i come to do my MOT i will not be removing the xenons, however if it fails i will remove them and refit the halogens bulbs - then replace the xenons once its passed.
 
The time that it has taken so far to source the passenger light there may well be totally different rules :headbang: By the way Ranski your car is looking great with the mods you have added! Gave me plenty to aim for :thumbsup:
 
thanks, Side skirts are a must on the sterling grey, the rear facelift lights go pretty nice aswell (but a pain to source!)
 
Back to the opening post.
Since it is a DoT requirement that all cars fitted with xenons have headlamp washers and self levelling, then I believe the MOT stations will take a simple view and follow that as an interpretation.

My feeling is they'll switch on lights. If they see them as xenon or aftermarket hid kit then they'll look for the extra switch on the dash for adjustment and if there 'fail' and will test washers and if not working 'fail'. They may well also look at suspension sensors while checking the underside.

Time will tell and I'm sure there will be some more and some less tolerant stations.

In any event I'll speak to my MOT guys when I get time and ask them what they are going to do.

Think I will also speak to my local MOT guy and get their view, I will ofcourse have the levelling sorted and the new lcm re-programmed but dont fancy a headlamp washer retro-fit but as you said time will tell, cheers for the reply :thumbsup:
 
You should be able to buy the kit to retrofit headlamp washers, the marking are all there on the bumper so shouldn't be that hard to do.
 
I have pulled the fuse specifically so they don't work... Last thing I want is loads of squirt all over my shiney appendage...

Me too, guess I'll need to reinstate the fuse for MOTs in future. And probably remove the HIDs at the same time.

(I'm also scared of the plastic cover popping off - was a major PITA with a previous car I had)
