Do you mean the orange side marker, are they lit or just reflector.
The halo ring or that little slot on the eye lid.
On later headlights it says BMW, but never seen slot on earlier headlamps.
Is it some US spec thing, window to the turn lamp.

The little slot on the back end of the eyelid. I've seen that in some models, but can't confirm if in only US models. These two pics are from US models. They seem to be lights. Dunno. My 2016 doesn't have that.

I have noticed these from US videos, they are really cool!

On the pic you posted it has the pre LCI headlight, so perhaps it’s either the US pre LCI or the US adaptive lights pre LCI or it’s on both LCI and Pre LCI adaptive lights.

If adaptive head lights turn, are they light sensors to cancel that function if other car light shine on it.
I had turning fog lights on a MR2, i didn't like them, makes you feel like your are turning quicker than reality.

So it's adaptive head lights ? Was it in a package ?

The markings on the side of the headlamps are cosmetic styling…there is no electrical or optical function there…

The 3 round thingies do nothing ? Weird.

Was it in a ‘cosmetic’ package of sorts ? Or discontinued after LCI ?

The sensor for high beam assistance is in the internal mirror assembly..

Adaptive headlights use speed as the primary determinant for their function…

Never got excited by the LCI headlights so got no idea on the cosmetic features of pre / post LCI headlights..

The E60 5 series also has them, but they are small LEDs orange at the front and red at the back. I always thought they looked really cool on the E60.

I am sure I have seen a video in the US with them illuminated on the Z4. I will have to have a search.

I still don’t know what those three thingies are, what they do, and why my car doesn’t have them.
