Head unit faulty?

Had my car a week now and a few times it has suddenly of its own accord changed back from playing the cd to the radio. When I try and go back to cd it plays nothing until I eject and put cd back in, it is a burned audio cd. Not sure if it's faulty or it just changes back because it suddenly cannot read the disc.. Any ideas folks?

My CD player can sometimes be a bit fussy when it comes to burned CD's. I would try a few original CD's to rule that out first...

Have a look on the CDs playing surface under a light and see if you can see any circular scratches, those are the ones that really cause a problem. Radial ones from the centre to the edge are less problematic.

Will try a couple of different discs tomorrow. The one I am using is freshly burned so not a single scratch on it, hopefully it's just being picky, don't fancy getting the dension kit to find my headinit is faulty :( would just purchase an aftermarket HU with iPod/Bluetooth if that's the case.

If you get the same problems with purchased CDs, it might be worth pulling it out and checking all the connections are sound.

bit obvious but have you ran a " laser cleaning " CD through ?
a few quid well spent on older units

Bad idea putting those in any slot loader. You're better off with a dry air can and blast a bit of clean air over the laser, and I'd be very careful doing that too

Tried another brand of disc today and burned it at a much lowere speed just incase, still same problem. It's almost like its flicking over because the TP is on but it's not, and when I press mode to go back to cd the disc does not play unless I eject and re insert.

I'm not too fused so long as when I get the dension gateway fitted it does not switch from that, a faulty cd slot I can cope with so long as its not the HU in general

Will have to try an original disc if I can find one :|

Tried an original disc in it today and played all the way through so the issue seems to be copied discs, will have to try another burner instead.

My head unit did this for a bit, it now refuses to play burned discs, either mp3 or CD's ! Luckily I use the iPhone for tunes, but it's bloody annoying at times!
