Head unit - Becker or not?

Hi,

I'm looking to purchase & fit a Dension 300 unit, I could get a Gateway lite but I particularly want the head unit to show the ID3 track info which is what the 300 model offers over the lite version.

The info on Dension's site says that the text display doesn't work for Becker manufactured head units, so is there any way that I can tell whether mine is a Becker unit without pulling it out?, if it's not a Becker who else made the Business CD unit for BMW?

Mine is a black Business CD, plays MP3's ok & fitted in a facelift zed.

I found this...

IIRC, Pre-facelift cars have a Becker BM24, facelift cars have a BM54 unit that added a dual tuner for full TMC functionality, mp3 support etc

There are some known issues with the BM54s cutting out and there are repair kits available

Search for BM54 repair kit on google and you'll see heaps of results

Googling around seems to imply that the BM54 units are also made by Becker....

Also, I did have an issue with one of the rear speakers not working - proved by fading all the way to the rear & then altering the balance left to right, however since I tried recently this now seems to be working ok again, so maybe my head unit has an intermittent fault as alluded to by the quoted text above :headbang:
