I know I have posted about dash cams, and whilst not in a car, this one was on the side of the riders helmet. Its the shocking reality of seeing the final moments of some ones life. RIP fella.

BBC said:
Police have released footage of a motorcyclist's final moments, captured on his helmet camera before he collided with a car. David Holmes, 38, was riding at 97mph when he died on the A47 at Honingham, Norfolk, in June last year. He collided with a Renault Clio as it turned at a junction.

Shocking and sobering.

Very much in 2 minds about it, but if it saves one life (or a car drivers being ruined) then great.

97mph in a 60mph

10mph slower, or even doing 60mph, he would still be here and talking about a near miss with a tosser in a Clio. Just shows how much extra care you have to take when driving above the speed limit.

Even if the Clio driver couldn't work out the biker's speed from a quick look then he should have stayed where he was and let the bike pass. Don't know how far the 'car behind' was or if it made the bike invisible.

Very chilling, especially hearing his scream. I feel very sorry for the Clio driver, to go past a junction like that at 97mph is lunacy.

I guess much like the biker we all have an air of invincibility when we get in our cars for a hoon or whatever, the 'it won't happen to me attitude' and this can be the outcome when you get over confident. There is some extremely poor drivers (cars and bikes) out there, and if you fail to respect that then your asking for trouble. You not only have to drive to your own abilities, but drive to every else's abilities, or lack of usually. It's still no guarantee of you avoiding a scrape but it certainly increass your odds of avoiding or being at fault. RIP :(

Yes, someone sent me this link earleir today. Very tragic and could so easily have been avoided, I'm a biker of many years myself and can sympathise (empathise?) with the rider but 97mph at that point looked to me be to be a ridiculous speed. Looks like the driver hasn't realised the speed the bike was doing and misjudged the timing, I can only assume his mobile was checked out to make sure he wasn't using it at the time as no mention of it was made but I must admit it was my first thought after seeing the vid. Not being privvy to all the details of the case makes it difficult to judge but the sentence the driver received seems a tad harsh given the biker's speed. Whatever, a tragic waste of a young life and I hope the video at least serves to make some road users think a bit more

it certainly makes you think.

for me driving the westy made me appreciate the speed of bikers, in the z its not so much but still there. the expression "when you overtake not IF you overtake" is very relevant. speed can be gained rapidly, much more so than in a z (i would probably include the //m in this). its one of the reasons why if i see a bike i make a point of moving to the white line very obviously unless OR until im happy for the bike to pass, which is usually pretty quick then i make a point of moving over to the left as much as possible and not accelerating etc out of corners/ waving them past etc. most bikers appriciate this with a little wave or a waggle of the boot (often)

i read a really intersting report about odd sized vehicles, including the westy or low cars. to surmise it the research indicated that we tend to look for and comprehend car size/shapes much more readily than odd shapes like bikes/westys/small low cars/pedestrians. the comment of "i didnt see them" is very relevant. chances are the car looked in that glance sort of way we all do at times and didnt register the bike. its s**t but it happens. its no excuse. just think how many times have we driven along changing the radio/sat nav/looking at the guages/day dreaming etc an then think holy crap ive dirven how far not looking. in reality we have been but not so much consciously

its scary. in this case the poor biker got it and the poor driver is left knowing they killed some one.

I think that if it acts as a 'wake up' to bikers and drivers alike to be more aware of their surroundings and apply speed appropriately, this is a good thing.

As an occasional cyclist I've had close calls (a couple of times have made contact) with cars cutting across my path at much slower speeds - luckily not at what would be considered overly fast for a pushbike - even though I try to ensure I'm visible to other road users. I hate to think about the forces involved in a collision at the speeds easily achievable on a motorbike.

My sincere sympathies to all involved/affected in this incident.

That is awful.

I was the victim in a very serious car accident last year. A car came over the crest of a hill at speed on my side of the road and hit me head on, I was doing 60MPH and the other car significantly more.

The video reminds me of the dreadful feeling of despair felt in the milliseconds before the impact, when you know it is inevitable and likely fatal.

I saw this on my timeline on Facebook and shared it as it struck a chord. Very sobering after a weekend of hooning in Scotland, often sharing the roads with bikers - a timely reminder to take care. I don't believe any of us drove in a manner dangerous to others, but we certainly saw a couple of idiots on our travels and once or twice expected to round the next corner or crest a hill and find a pile of twisted metal.

I think his mother was right to allow it to be made public. It's not graphic, but unlike adverts that you know are staged, after the crash when the camera shot is absolutely motionless and everything is silent, you know he's dead. Chilling, and will hopefully influence many who watch it to take greater care.

As for the driver's penalty being harsh - he said he didn't see the bike when others did, and he a pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, so I don't think it's harsh at all.

I've often had occasions when bikers seem to appear from nowhere because of the ridiculous speed they are doing. 97 mph is absolute lunacy, especially on a single carriageway road.

I feel sorry for the car driver.
