HDTV & Lip Syncing

Bought a Panasonic L42E5B and have been tearing my hair out because the sound does not always match the picture. Thought it may be a duff set so had it replaced only to find exactly the same problem  Happens on HD, SD, blu-ray, iPlayer, DLNA... Ran a 19" Samsung next to it and the small set was quicker to change pictures than the new one. Anybody else notice this, apparently only some people do or can

Yes I had this when I bought a new TV last year - I think there was a setting either on the amp or TV I changed to resolve this

Mine has a option for audio sync, so you can add +/- 5 seconds in 0.01s intervals - not had to use it except when playing back avi/mp4/mkv files from a USB-connected drive.

Yes, I have the same so bought all the equipment to solve that one :)

First of all - what do you use for your sound connection, is it via HDMI or Optical / Coaxial?

I use a couple of Felston units in my setup, where you can vary the delay by however much you needed it.

Optical from TV to soundbar other than that just use normal TV speakers. The really annoying thing is it is intermittent, so you would be constantly changing it with the equipment you are talking about

I have an LG tv that does that. I gave up after ages trying, we don't seem to notice anymore.

I have this quite a bit on my samsung especially when playing blu rays. Gets worse and worse till I pause then press play again. Happens on tv program's a fair bit as well!

85 ms is fine for most programs I have found. I hardly ever need to change the settings.

Would there be any reason why the Samsung would get the picture and sound quicker than the Panasonic using the same feed?

Yes, it is all in the video processor. The more the processor does, the slower the image appears.

Samsung is not a great screen so has a poor video processor. Upside is that it is quicker though.

I have the prof series screen and that processor does a lot of processing to correct the video errors and compute the best images. Downside = delay.

So the more your TV can do the slower it will be? Think I'd rather a basic set that actually works, maybe they haven't scrapped my old 28" CRT yet...

I splashed out on a Sony 40" led Bravia 12 months ago and was disappointed in HD with lip synch. Heard that watching same channel through Sky HD no problem so added sky and sky+ box to my set up.

Works a treat... haven't watched a free to view channel through built in hd freeview since. Haven't a clue why but the difference is perfect synched picture to sound

I have a 4 year old panasonic plasma 50". In the US i had fibre optics to the house. In Germany i have a British sky box. No issues at all with sync. My Onkyo surround has a variable delay function. But haven't used it. I guess I can count my self as fortunate.

Some sound bars have delay settings

I have the 3d brother of this TV connected via HDMI on port 2 to the Panasonic sound bar the bar has auto lip sync which seems to work 98% of the time
