Guys am stuck :headbang:

I have been trying to follow a hdr advice online but am a bit stuck , I download some free software and do not really have a clue what to do .. and so far the results have been..OK but not what I was expecting

So my questions is where do I start? I have taken the pictures as per

so +2 +1 -1 -2 etc so have the pcitures but do not have any ideas etc

Everyone been doing some mega cool pictures and am getting fomo (fear of missing out)

What to do? :(

Easily good enough. You just need 3 or more exposures as you've already done. You can even simulate that by creating over and under in a computer from a single image although you won't get quite as good a result. I messed about with Bing's shot for his sig pic from a jpg file he had. It's all about how you blend the images and then how much post processing you do. That over contrasty, almost hand coloured look is not to everyone's taste, but you can also enhance subtly to get a really nice pic

Ok well thats good, I have aprox 5 pics but they just look a bit dull :( , and a little lack in colour.

The pictures I have taken are quite good but altoghther... mmm

What software do you use?

Please don't use HDR its awful. Even when done well you can spot it a mile away. A well exposed and thought out picture speaks worlds.

 ok how do I use gimp
Gimp is a complex program with a learning curve as difficult as Photoshop. Lot of on-line help and Youtube demo. Many of the advanced features are done via plugins. Best to just jump in there and explore the menu and see what the different function do.

Tom where do I start , I enjoy taking pictures genrally but other than spotting a good shot / have an idea of what I want to create where do I start with editing. I have been playing around on the gimp programe this evening and it looks pretty cool but no sure what function does what?

The HDR affect I have seen on some pictures looks quite stunning mainly landscapes etc

Thanks WHL for the programme heads up , I take it you need to upgrade e.g pay if you want to do anything with the pictures

Well editing is really IMO to stylise and tweak, obviously all digital imagery needs some post but its all about getting it right first time in camera. Its a good idea to do a bit of research on what kind of images your into to work out what your style is then try and recreate it. Also learning from experimentation a good way but if your struggling go on the net for some tutorials.

Learn about light, how to chase the light. Probably what everyone struggles with once you understand light it is a lot easier.

The word photography is derived from greek term painting with light. This is the difference between a pro and an amateur. An amateur can use a camera and edit an image that may not be perfect to look perfect whereas a pro sees the light and captures it without the hours of extra work.

Instead of HDR use graduated filters, multiple filters to create the effect, HDR doesn't look real even the really well done stuff it is very surreal and I really dislike it. You will never see it used in commercial use.
