Hayward & Scott exhausts

Well it's back... Oh. My. God.

It's hard to describe, and the video doesn't really do it justice. There's no drone at all inside, and cruising on the motorway, the sound of the exhaust almost disappears - but as soon as you put your foot down, the gates to hell are opened!

Anyway.. here you go!

Thats a lot a noise! The trademark 'metallicy' BMW sound is almost drowned out.
You could almost do anything to a Z4 Coupe in white and I would like it though :D

There was a group buy on another forum for a backbox fromt hese guys but I don;t think it ever took off.

I'll look out a link when I get a minute.

They are a custom exhaust manufacturer so they will build an exhaust for anything basically, it's the same concept as company's like Longlife who I got to build my system.

I had H&S make a full turbo back system with double decat bypass on my last car.

Plus points:

Great fitment and good ground clearance
Tailpipe design was exactly what I wanted.
Sound was great - not boomy at cruise speeds but all hell lets loose when you give it beans.
Good customer service
Customised 3" downpipe which tapered into 2.5" for remainder of system which kept noise down and exhaust gas velocities higher. Massive improvement in turbocharger spoolup.

Bad points:
Leaky flange where it was less than flat where the new system was fudged to meet up with the OEM turbo elbow - could have engineered a better solution and QC on the flange was piss poor tbh - I fixed it myself by buying some 3" triangular gaskets and grinding the flange flat. As standard only a 1mm bit of ally was being used as a gasket with no compressible qualities.

The back box while very shiney was a bit of an odd shape being hand made. A perfectionist might not like that.
Pricey £650-700 but does have a very long warantee (probably longer than you will own the car).

thats seems very exspensive for an exhaust by all means. more so thn the hks silent i had my s15... which i had no problems with!

Totally agree, I was being rather anal about having a twin exit to retain the stock-ish look. I also wanted one which used all the stock mounting points to prevent stress on the turbo and manifold (most after market didn't use the front and rear gearbox mounting points at the time and nobody was selling flexible front downpipes to prevent the issue which often lead to turbo gasket failure).

They are a great bunch of blokes and reasonably local to me (over in Basildon). I had one of their exhausts on my Impreza, enquired about one for my CLK (didn't keep it long enough to do it though) and now thinking about one for the Z4M. They will make anything for you, but if they don't have the jigs already they will need to keep your car for a couple of days. If you find it too noisy or something, they'll drop in an additional silencer; basically they'll do anything to make sure you're happy with what you've got.

I don't think I'll bother now, aside from the whole noise/costs issue - I just don't have the time to take it down there, at least in the short term.
