Hayward & Scott exhaust ...any thought?

Hi guys,

I posted that in the general section but someone told me to post it here since exhaust and engine are closely tied. It does make sense ...

Anyone ever heard Hayward & Scott exhaust? Would like to get the feedback from those who know these. I a have a Z4M Roadster...

I heard a clip or two on youtube and kinda like the sound of those mufflers. But looking around the forum, I did not see much people having those.

I am looking just to enhanced the sound (over the too silent stock muffler) without having drone. What I do like with an exhaust is to be just a bit louder at idle, but will scream nicely at WOT. What would be your take on that product?

Here is a clip I found on youtube ... but as you know a single sound clip is far from the ole experience.

I had some fitted to my Z4M, Whilst they sounded amazing the low down bass was too much for me!

I went out in a Roadster with them fitted and loved them, but when fitted to my coupe it resonated in the cabin too much for me, I even went as far as adding sound deadening to the boot floor but that didn't help so bought some Supersprint Powerloops. Not sure if @TomK is selling them?

I don't know Tom (I am quite new to the forum) ... but I PMed him to get him around here :)

I had a set on my Z4MC with the H&S crosspipes too.

They are noisy, but i liked the sound they made..

Certainly a lot nicer than the standard muted OEM pipes.

I am well acquainted with resonances in coupes. I own a Pontiac Solstice coupe and fitted a system that was highly regarded on the convertibles, but mine was the first coupe they had been fitted to. It was unacceptably resonant and right at the normal cruising speed. After I switched to a somewhat quieter system all was well.

Having said that, I have RPI back boxes on my Z4MC and although I have read criticism of them for noise, mine are perfect for me and result in no cabin resonances. Perhaps that was because they were fitted by the previous owner and he had endured all of the noisier break-in period.

Maybe we need a list of which systems/back boxes are problematic and which ones break in and become acceptable?

Ironic that this doesn't seem as much an issue for the convertibles, but I guess that makes up for the coupes looking so much better than they do......

I'm a big fan of the BCS exhaust, Nigel and co are great guys which helps a lot with the process. There is some drone at 1,800rpm, if you're pushing on this is never an issue.

I’ve had Hayward & Scots on my e60 m5 and tbh the quality wasn’t the best, however they sounded great. For the z4m it’s quitters hard to find the right sound, I have heard 2 different brands in the flesh both sounded great. The supersprint poweloops have more bass and enismann more rasp. I thought long and hard about buying tom’s set as they are a great price and the build quality is top notch but I really want a set enismann boxes as I love the rasp. I will hopefully get a set one day. For now the stock exhaust is for me really quite good when paired with an induction kit

One thing I miss from the OEM pipes is the rasp the car makes when it is cold / on choke, that is it really though :D

The BCS pipes (to my ears) sound amazing on song, similar to a Ferrari 355.

I used H&S with an old 996 and i found them to be great exhaust fabricators, that said it was maybe 7 years ago.

I bought bradz H&S boxes off him, I found them great, if anything a little too quiet at higher revs, but then again I am a bit of a chav

A bit of drone around 2k RPM, but nothing extreme.
I have uploaded a video on youtube, revving to about 4k RPM. Search Z4M Hayward and Scott, first video.

I’ve got H&S on both my Subaru’s and can’t fault the quality ,my m coupe is standard so don’t know wot they would sound like, best to go out in a few members cars and see for yourself and wot they are running, leads you will get wot you want that way

They are quite tricky to come by, but another to consider is the Stromung system i have on my Z4M and cant fault it!
There is a tiny bit of drone from 1900-2100rpm, but overall a really nice sound thats subtle a low speed but really ramps up when you step on it!
Not to mentioned they are way less than half the weight of stock and look the dogs danglies filling the exhaust cutout nicely! :)
