I was quite suprised how many cat coupes there where!!

coupes are great :)

personally i see nothing wrong with a Cat D if its done correct. You will buy very cheap but you may struggle to sell though

Agreed on the natural progression. But i have only just got mine mechanically sorted. To i twist or stick!!

Agree with you on all the above points Taz I wouldn't mind buying a cat car off a forum member. Especially as if itr had a documented thread history to reassure me. Its the only way i can see me even possibly getting a z4mc unless we have a forum whip round for me
I have spoke to the garage about the last one. They didn't know the exhaust was non standard and didn't know anything about the repair. So i think i will be leaving that alone.
Waiting replies from the others......
Still i would have to sell mine first and no one seemed int rested the last time i had a wobble.

Last one looks stunning Mat.

Selling the thing can be a problem thou. Remember a guy selling a cat C E46 M3 years ago ended up breaking the car and selling it that way as nobody wanted to buy it. That would be heart breaking :(

My old coupe was cat d and it was fine , minor front damage as far as I could see , ran it a couple of years and got my money back .
However , when I bought it I rang the garage and only asked if it was still for sale and where and when can I view it , turned up 2 hours later , forecourt full of tasty cars , drove it and bid him 2k less than he was asking , he knocked a bit off and I held out my hand , he thought I was shaking on his deal then I apologised for wasting his time and thanked him for the test drive , told him we were miles away from a deal , then he crumbled and settled on a very favourable price for me :D
If your paying cash garages usually see cat d as a problem and won't want you to walk away .
If your going to use it as a car and enjoy it , buy it and sell it cheap when your finished with it .
It takes a little to get around to this way of thinking , but it works for me .

I think we are viewing it from a similar angle Paul. The red one is a privet sale maybe i make him a silly offer????

Just got off the phone about the blue one. They have no information on the damage. And no history for the car!!
So not put off that could be a great bargaining tool. But how can i find out either bits of information. If i was to call my friendly BMW garage could they pull up the history for the car????

If you go along and have a look at the car, ask to check the V5 - it should have the previous owner's details so either memorise them or take a snap with your phone camera, bit of work with directory enquiries and, with any luck, you should be able to talk to them....

I have an old school friend (we dated we we where only 11-12) She works in a BMW dealer. She owes me a favor we went out together so she must.... I have asked if she can be a sneaky fox and have a look for me too.

For what it's worth , I advertised my old coupe and had over a hundred views on z3m coupe site and half a dozen enquiries , mostly people telling me they wanted a mint one owner low mileage non cat car ?
Various people told me they were taking a huge risk buying a cat car , my reply was , I've done quite a few laps of the ring , got just under 150 mph on the autobahn , numerous trips to my place in France and then onwards to Spain , the wheels haven't fallen off and it's never let me down .
The guy that bought it turned up cash in hand , asking price because it was cheap and said it was one of the better cars he had viewed . He was the only person to actually come and look at the car !
I would go and view it , if my experience is anything to go by he will be sick of clowns asking stupid questions and trying to swap it for a life time supply of chalk
Drive it and assess it yourself , you seem to know your way around a car , any bad repair will be obvious , if he won't take a lowball offer just be pleasent and leave him your number , it opened my eyes as to how many time wasters are out there when mine was for sale , at worst you will have had a ride out and driven a car you want to own , and may end up owning it eventually one way or another .
And you could be in the car you want a couple of years earlier than you thought with a few quid spare :D
The handshake and apology scenario is a killer to a seller , think it's sold then it's not :headbang:

I am all excited about this never had a blue car either!! It could all be pointless as i haven't asked the boss yet! And she is notorious at saying no to my bright ideas!!

Your right Paul the car is quite a distance from me. So i dont want to go without finding out all i can first... But again your right check it out and make my own mind up. Make an offer what i think its worth and see where we go from there.

I have done some internet digging and have found an old ebay add for the car. I have sent the guy a message. It was recorded cat d in June 2007 so it was only a year or so old. I am hopping the repair was done at BM and i can get all the info from my friend.

2007 and a year old , it may only have been light damage , even stolen recovered no damage to be written off at that age , good luck on this one fella

Just heard back from a previous owner. Damaged was done at only 6k miles and there where loads of receipts. The garage selling it now have no paper work! Alarm bells or just the fact that this garage seem to sell a few reposed cars from auction?!Have i just found the new monkey mobile??? Hands off other members at least until Mrs Monkey tells me i am not allowed it!!

agreed  very tempting but only the proper Coupe the Z4M, more so with the recent price drops to 14k money
