Having 2 daily drives - is keeping the costs down possible!?

BMW Z4 2.0....... plus Landcover Discovery 3.0 diesel.

INSURANCE COMBINED £980
TAX COMBINED £800
MOT & SERVICES £700

Probably spend £3,000 a year but i don't drink and don't smoke, and golf is my only hobby.

This is roughly looking like my options too.

I'm 99% sure now I can wait 1 more year before I need to get another car which is nice! I'm still keeping a keen eye out though for options.

On a complete side step here. When I win the lottery I think I will have to get one of these!

Interesting read. I was contemplating this a while back. Running a second car, Company car, or just stick with the Zed 365.

I was looking into the e92 or e91 route as well. 320d. No issues with the LCI model, cheap insurance and fuel efficient, so that was the plan.

I like the comment on the car. You want something comfortable. You’ll be driving the Zed sure but you want to enjoy the second car too.

Probably worth while doing if you can afford the initial outlay of a second car. And have the parking space. Which is why I never did this. Don’t have money and the space.

To be fair you may have dodged a bullet there!

The LCI E9* 320ds use the N47 engine - if you google "N47 camchain" it isn't pretty reading!

That's one of the main reasons I sold my 123d - and bought an E86 (as an obvious replacement).

That just comes down to your idea of fun.
For me, a 1.4 LX Peugeot 206 was horrible to drive and not worth the fuel and tax saving. The 2.5 litre straight six BMW is more costly in every regard but is enjoyable, it's depreciation free too.

That was exactly my experience! Which is why my Mazda 323f lasted only 6 months, to be replaced by my 325ti Sport! Not quite depreciation free, but £500 for 3 years and 23K miles was money well spent!

I'll see how the E91 325i Touring works out!
:o :?
I loved my 323F Sport. not the fastest 2ltr hatch in the wold, but it handled sweetly and the interior trim was well above that of my Z4M. Lovely leather and alcantara.

You must have had a posh one.

Mine was a 1.5 LXi (I think) bought mainly for the cheap road tax! With cloth everywhere, decent handling but quite a bit of roll, and gutless. :(

I suppose a 2 litre 323 might have been fun what with it having a V6 motor, but I just went straight to 2.5 litre RWD loveliness with an E46 325ti. :)

Along with the Z I have a Honda Jazz. Well loved by pensioners usually going slow and blocking car parks. However our 1.4 does 52 to the gallon (petrol). Turns on a sixpence, with the rear seats folded down flat on the floor can carry a fridge. Designed as a family car but bought by "old greys" it is totally reliable. In five years apart from servicing tax, etc our Jazz has only needed one exhaust and tyres. Bought for £2700 now only worth £500 and is reliable as the day is long.

Pre LCI certainly had its issues, and LCI may also have some problems not fully ironed out. But I’d happily get an anything after 2009 if I could afford it!

I think adding a Touring is a good choice. I have my Z4C as daily, sharing the load with my E46 Touring. Together they allow my E30 convertible to have an easy life and only come out on nice weekends and European trips.
If you are a BMW Car Club member have a look at the insurance. They do multi-car policies, I have the Z4C and my wife's Galaxy with them and they were cheaper than Admiral for better coverage.

Yes I still haven't checked it out yet but will be interesting to see what it turns out to be.
