Have you or do you own a 6 series

Anyone have any experience with them? Preferably the M6.
There seems to be no good forum for it... maybe I've just been spoiled by this one. :)

Have had 2, a 645 at launch and then a 650, both convertibles

Nickm, Beedub,
What are the common problems and repair costs?
What's standard?
Must have extras?
How are the back seats?
Good boot space?

Beedub, How does the M6 compare with your Z4M when it was stock. Which one's more fun to drive?

ksher, Just had a look... nothing much there, but thanks for the suggestion.

I'm looking to either get a Z4MC or M6 Coupe next summer/winter. I know nothing about the M6 and there doesn't seem to be anywhere on the web where I can find a decent amount of info about it.

Excellent boot space, with roof up or down, great power delivery - average 20mpg....had lots of problems with my roof - but this was a one off problem, and BMW gave me a new car as a result - rear seats great - and not much in terms of extras, just DO NOT buy a manual, no IKEA wood trim, and get sports seats - NAV, XENON etc all standard.....

This may be somewhere to have a look at...

I went from Z4MC to M6 convertible, was a great move for me.

They are ridiculously good VFM.

imperative options- DAB, Piano Black interior, FULL leather, not extended (VERY important), comfort access, TV.

Is there a particular car you have in mind? Don`t buy off anyone except BMW and try and push for a 2 year warranty.

Ref running costs; they aren`t cheap cars to run. I`m averaging 16mpg and thats with a fair bit of motorway cruising. Tyres: don`t run them on cheap rubber, PS2s work so well on the M6, Continentals struggle with traction. PS2s £350 each on rears, £260ish on fronts, reckon on changing every 14,000 miles or so.

Servicing is I drive led, oil service £250ish, Insp. 1 £800ish, insp 2 £1200ish. Mine needs spark plugs and brake fluid change in Jan, again all advised by idrive.

If you are coming from a Z4M reckon on adding half as much again into running the thing.

Truly do it though, fantastic car.

Thanks for the replies.

I currently have a 2004 3.0 and I'm just currently doing a little research into the car as my knowledge is limited at the moment.

I would only be doing around 5k per year (all city driving though, so probably around 10-12mpg?), so even though running costs are quite high I think I could still live with it.

So why not extended leather? Is full leather more leather than extended leather? :?

I'd want a coupe, so no roof issues. Anything else I should be aware of which is common (like springs in a Z4)?

hi peddy, im not so much a fan to be honest..... the car feels big and very heavy..... but my god that engine is fabulous... my stock ///m just couldnt keep up, now im modded the big v10 cant match 460bhp with 1400kgs, it was however supremely comfortable and just a love thing to tool around in...... i have to the say i do worry about that gear box.... the way it smashes and i mean smashes the next gear home in the fastest setting makes me cringe every single time, when the new model arrives they will be worth pennies, my mom brought hers brand new and loves it, she just picked up a new bently supersports, she ended up keeping it after bentlys Frankly laughable trade in price, be warned these have plenty of more devaluing to do........

My mum has had a 630 convertible for the last 4 years and I have to say it is a fantastic car. Had no problems with it whatsoever, great to drive and still comfortable in the back. I'd definitley recommend one if you're looking at that sort of thing. My parents only usually keep their cars for a couple of years but this one has been a stayer.

I had a 635d as a hire car for a couple of weeks, exceptional car and rapid. But certainly not a sports car, even though the Boxster S seemed slower I was delighted to get back in it. It felt like an old man's car. Be ready for one soon I guess :(
