Have you adjusted you lifestyle yet?

Until I lived in England I was unaware of how many Brits, especially Officers, were killed in WWI. I also didn't know much of what damage the Versailles Treaty did either. My father-in-law was a Hurricane pilot and we talked many a night into the wee hours after Worthington Bitters at the put then Glenfiddich at his country house.

Hurricane pilots, the unsung heroes.... what a job they did.

As to WWI after the various armies were stood down, and the treaty of Versailles the Germans kept all their commissioned officers and retired their "squaddies" so to speak... we didn't and then when the war started we had no officers with actual experience..... we never really caught up.

Scary stuff!!!

If you ever get chance grab a TV series called Blackadder goes fourth.... a stunning comedy based around WWI... really sobering ending after some of the funniest lines, and writing ive ever had the pleasure to watch.

The most interesting parts that I did not know about have to do with Foreign policy from the 1890's onwards. How the US and UK almost came to blows. How the Kaiser tried to align with Britain. How he was rebuffed. How the British ended up making a treaty with the French and Russians. How the German Empire was afraid of being boxed in and decided to build a fleet that pushed Britain further away. How on June 24th 1914 the Germans and Britain had agreed to cap the German Fleet as that it would not threaten the British fleet (the British had a law that their fleet had to equal the number 2 & 3 fleets of the world + 10%). Then there was the assassination of the Archduke on June 28th 1914. The Austrians mobilized against Serbia. Russia had a treaty with Serbia and they mobilized. Germany had a treaty with Austria and they mobilized. Britain and France had a treaty with Russia and they mobilized. Italy had a treaty with Germany so they mobilized.

I am missing details here but - volumes could be written!

That was WWI....

NUTS!

my history of WWI is pretty poor, but as you point out the run up to the start is massively complicated.....

and volumes have been written :)

It is allowed to talk about Politics and Religion on zpost.com - so I do. Over here it is not allowed so I avoid it. It has nothing to do with love or hate. It has to do with my point of view as I see it. Love and hate are emotions. In that post I have just mentioned facts and a hypothesis based on facts. My hypothesis could be true and then again it could be false. I do not know everything :D

I understand, and you are right in taking your hatred of the USA (your point of view) to another wesite. Your passion for it shows. Good luck, hopefully you will be liberated soon and enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in your chosen promised land.

Oh behave, theyre just facts as he sees them... if you disagree go look things up get yourself some references and dispute them intelligently.. Its what free speech is all about... isn't it?

If you want a chequered history read about the Uk!! scares and depresses me on a regular basis :(

JBZ4 - I do not hate the US. It saddens me that US Nationals consider any criticism of the US as "hatred" towards the US.

I feel that the US a Sovereign Nation just like any other Nation on Earth that is made by man. It is not better or worse than any other Nation on this planet. It has it's own interests and spins things just like any other nation. The people who reside on the US are like any other people - they love, fear, hate, hope for the best, love their children, fear the unknown, demonize others etc. just like any other human.

There is nothing special about you or me. There is nothing special about your religions views or my lack of religious views. There is nothing special about your country and there is nothing special about my country. We are just human and that is about all. Hopefully we are both good human beings who can have different hypothesis about different things and yet not accuse each other of hatred.

I will not talk about my post on zpost.com on this site anymore. I hope you respect the fact that I do not hate your country and neither do I love your country.

You words betray you. You have a tendency towards doublespeak either to get a rise out of someone or to provoke argumentative discourse. It is in your nature...perhaps your culture.

I get angry and I can be short on kindness and patience as any other person. I admit I doublespeak at times since like all human beings I ,too, can be a hypocrite.

It has to do with my humanity and my human nature - just as in your humanity and your human nature.

I take offense to you poke at my culture. I think that is quite racist of you. That is uncalled for.

I have stated something on a different forum and stated facts. You do not debate those facts. You accuse me of hypocrisy - that is justified because like you I too can be a hypocrite. You attack on my culture.... that is racist. Do you disagree that the US has attacked all these states ( http://www.shorttext.com/ktt589 ) since WWII and that the US has thus attacked more nations than any other nation on this planet since 1945? If you do then give me the facts. Do not slander my culture please. Give me the facts.

Your facts, your history, your culture. You live with what you want to believe. I refuse to be drawn into, yet again, a discussion on what is and what isn't. You are an adult. If you believe my views are skewed...cool. If you believe my country is a corrupt, belligerent and aggressive nation, wonderful. Then end your passive aggressive nature here in this forum or at worse, deposit it over in Zpost.

As for me, I like this quotation: A foolish man may be known by six things: Anger without cause, speech without profit, change without progress, inquiry without object, putting trust in a stranger, and mistaking foes for friends. Know this enfield, I am no fool.

20ducks - I never said you were a fool.

What does my culture have to do with my disagreeing with you? Such thinking is racist - aren't I allowed to have my views as a free man and an equal human being. I think I am quite straight forward and honest. I will take your label of "Passive Aggressive" as name-calling.

Hope you have a wonderful evening and a relaxing weekend.
