Have we just taken possession of the last Z4’s

I’ve just received an email from CarWow about offers on a Z4, interesting since they couldn’t get me one when I wanted, but this message popped up when I clicked on the link.

These cars are now discontinued by BMW :o don’t know if it’s model specific etc but are us recent owners and people with confirmed orders going to be the last NEW factory spec’d G29 owners?

Bit of a p!sser if correct because I was hoping to get another one in 18/20 months or so anticipating they might not be available much after that :headbang:

I am guessing Carwow is wrong. It would be very odd for BMW to cut production after just two years given all the money invested into the development of the car. Also you can right now still configure one online. At least I hope I am right about Carwow being wrong!

Probably a mistake, or ambiguous and just referring to a specific spec or version. However, I can believe that it could be true. BMW aren't selling many, yet there are still huge wait times which suggests they are allocating very little of their manufacturing capacity to the Z4. Perhaps they made enough from the Toyota deal to not need to keep on selling the Z4? I suspect the G29 only happened because of that deal.

With the chip shortage, it could be that BMW have decided to focus on selling as many of their core future range as possible and are dropping a model that they planned to discontinue for good in a couple of years anyway.

We all know that roadsters are a dying breed, maybe the extinction is coming sooner than we thought. :x

I don't think that the Z4 is actually manufactured by BMW as it's assembled by Magna Steyr in Austria

Just checked BMW new car locator and there isn't a single Z4 listed of any variant. Plenty of M cars across the whole range of models. I wonder what is going on?

Thanks, fixed it

I don't know if that's how it works, but clearly the Z4 is not an important model for BMW and was announced as being discontinued after the G29 just a few months after it was launched.

I’m making and effort to find out for certain that I can place a guaranteed order before I sell mine - at my age I haven’t got time on my side - ie I don’t want to be without my toy for a year !

Me me me!

Joking aside, you ordered yours some while ago so it should be well embedded into their system by now.

i've heard this is not true. an order from a dealer for a Z4 was placed today that was accepted.

Which model?
The Magna Steyr manufacturing could be halted - the halt may nor be financial tho? It could be the “chip” supply problems?

Ford sent out a 'trade only' press release last week saying very similar with regard all their 'performance' ICE models, so wouldn't be surprised if it's true.
The semi-conductor shortage, along with lack of production last year may have brought the demise of the ICE forward by a good few years :(

Yours and Ori’s was one of the first things I thought about when I saw it. I hope you both do too

And I also hope I can order another one at some point!!

Does anyone have any figures on how popular the G29's are? Perhaps if the sales are not as BMW hoped they may be using the chip shortage as an excuse to discontinue. On the other hand they may be able to build a basic model in each engine spec more efficiently and let customers upgrade after sale?

There are currently 767 M40i Autos registered plus 42 First Edition M40is registered. No idea how many 4cyl G29s.
