Have I missed my Brake fluid change.

When I start the car and press the button it reads 8.09, was that supposed to be august 2009? I had the car since January 2009 and its a 57 plate so 2 years would of been around that time. If that is the case its been in the dealers 2 or 3 times for warranty work since aug and they never picked it up.
Its due a service in 4000 miles which is 2/3 months away, will it be alright to wait until then. Cars currently done 34000.

Yep, I think you have missed it. But don't worry, it won't affect the warranty. I've just done the same thing and the dealer said the warranty was still ok - the purpose of the fluid change is just to prevent it absorbing too much water and the brakes becoming less effective.

My car was registered late Jan 2008 and is also on a 57 plate. But when I looked on the plate in the engine bay, it turns out it was built in September 2006. The brake fluid change is due 2 years from the build date (not date of first reg as I first thought :oops: ), so my fluid change was due Sept 08.

Can't remember how the date was displayed on mine, but seem to remember it wasn't the way around I thought. So the 8.09 might mean Sept 2008 like mine. Check your build date, and if it's Sept 2006 then your fluid change was due Sept 2008.

Easy to miss, but the good thing is that if you haven't already hit anything due to less than expected braking efficiency :D , there's no harm done. Probably a good idea to have it changed soon though.

I think you will find they didnt reset the computer on the PDI, my car was built Aug06 and registered Dec06, the brake fluid indicator didnt appear unit Dec08.

MY previous BMW though they forgot to reset on the PDI so came up 3 months early. If it doesnt affect the warranty it maybe a dealer thing where some reset and other dont, as it's another way of making more money.
 
Phew- I have done the same! Another quick question time wise I'm over due an inspection but am 4000 miles short of needin one- will this affect my warrenty?
 
hey guys, how do you check when your brake fluid needs changing...what is the button you guys are talking about to find the date?

also is there a way to reset it once its done?

Press the S/R button in between the instrument binnacles when starting up.. changes to a date :)

dunno about how to reset it though

That's interesting.. any ideas why? I've been in contact with a BMW bod recently who has given me the original history of mine as it was a Press Car used in America.. surely yours has a story too ? :)

i just tried before and it didnt come up. when exactly do i do it? i also tried holding it in but that brings up the test menu
 
before you turn the ignition on I thought... cant see it in the manual I have here, maybe in the service manual?
