Haters going hate

thats what you find with cars like ours mr machine monkey.

you get the purerist who only stick to oem mods who dislike this kind of stuff.

then people like me who change everything ha.
even retrimmed the plastic gear knob surround yesterday because i was bored.

one thing i will say... its a complete ball ache to get run the airlines. whole of the rear out to get the airlines through.. but bmw did kindly put two big grommets either side in the footwells to run the lines through to the engine. when i can il upload a photo of the install iv done in my boot... have lost about 50% of my boot space as a result! :headbang:
I modded my previous car plenty and was always tweaking it. I don't think it ever looked like the tyres didn't fit on the wheels & suspension was broken!

Here's mine at the moment (bad photo I know)

Yea would seem a lot of you aren't into this look and think it's broken but hey times change. Takes a lot of work to do this and money hah.

Here's the air tank too.

It's going to be great when I put some photos up of my car when it's all finished haha 8)

Don't hate them, I just don't get the idea of deliberately hobbling the dynamics of the car for visual effect :scratchhead:

They look like the suspension has collapsed (yes I know their running bags). Oh and someone shrunk the tyres..... :poke:

Don't get me wrong lads. I love a lowered motor. I modded my old 3.0i roadster, it was pretty low....

However - it didn't look stupid. Or broken

That's cracking that, fella....

So, air ride is a good option for appearances - if you want to lower your car to the ground for shows. But how good is the handling though? I remember the British Leyland/Citroen efforts at air/gas/oil suspension systems (hydropneumatic) and that they offered no natural roll stiffness, so the car used to roll around a lot - so much I can remember feeling seasick in a long driven in a Citroen DS. Has the technology improved that much that the car is still track-capable?

Oh, and nice diversion, mate ;)

fixed this thread to contain content that's not ridiculous.

(imo and slightly in jest.. but... urgh..)

only if you get a bag that, at the right pressure, is equal to your original spring rate and height.
If you do this, then you'll have comparable suspension.

you could probably get ones more equivilent to the likes of Eibach if you wanted a decent track drive.. but like I say, you need bags that equal the same spring rate, else the ride will be utter shite.

They are getting better for handling. My mate has a big cls amg and it has air ride. You can really feel the difference in the settings. Also i have seen some motoring videos of guys driving bagged cars on track and saying they are really improving.
As the systems get better and better it will become the right way for most people to go.

Think about it most people who lower there cars. And not scraping on the ground with silly camber. The every day guy Adamskis car looked great and i think it was FK springs Adam? But i found it a to low on them and the ride shocking. If you could go that low and then raise it and have say a low track and road setting at the touch of a button. Come on who wouldn't want that?? My mates massive heavy cls handles a lot better than my z4 did on FK springs!!

I get the hate for these looking at those cars above. But think how great a air ride car could be. Think of the Williams f1 cars in the late 90s that could control the ride height on each corner of the car. And there for corner flatter and faster. No reason why this cant and wont work with air ride. I think there are even basic aftermarket systems out there doing it already!!

Shiny but fugly!

Each to their own.

There was one similar to this near me that I would sometimes have to follow to work - I knew I was following it when I got in the queue of traffic as it could barely negotiate tiny speed bumps in the road.
