Has anyone..... sprayed the dash trim?

Hi everyone

Been pondering this a little while now , pre current Zed as well about spraying professional bodyshop job on the dash trim and other parts which is current silver?, I would not go near as it would need to be perfect

Am not that fussed , but our mini has black dash trim which I do like, question is has it been done , and does it more importantly look any good? , concerns with it marking easy I guess.....least I could use the outside polish inside! :lol:

To buy new is crazy money , and second hand is like hens teeth, also dismissed wrapping it as it would seem in a few months they start to bubble. Like I say I do not mind the current colour but I think the black would offset the Blue seats etc better

The dash trim could be resprayed, if it's the same as the silver trim in my D3 then, depending on your final colour/gloss choice it would just need a key with a scotchbrite pad then either topcoat colour or if you were looking at gloss, basecoat then high gloss clear, I work for an industrial paint manufacturer and supply companies with paint for amongst other things plastics, so it can be done !! :thumbsup:
 
O good I may speak to a couple of bodyshops get it priced up , it cannot cost the earth, I mean it only basic black gloss, and there is not a great deal of it.... I will invesigate further

It would be good to hear from anyone who has done it , also a cost indicator :)

mine never came out the way I did expect it to be, so got rid of them till I found a complete set of piano black, then replaced them all.

it all depends how good your bodyshop place is.
 
If it's just a matter of key the surface then topcoat it wouldn't be more than an hours labour, the topcoat could either be forced dried in an oven or air dry within a couple of hours, a 1/2 litre of paint would be ample, rough cost around £20-£30 max for the paint, obviously double the cost if it's a basecoat and topcoat finish, an automotive refinisher could mix whilst you waited, good luck :)
 
Paza, ill let you know....

I currently have dash strip and console ready to take to the bodyshop.

I've been prepping the pieces for the last week building up layers of etch then filler primer and rubbing down making sure they are glassy smooth with no 'grain' effect visible.

They will be Sterling grey to match my exterior.

I should have a full set for sale after ive put them in.

Did it just look a bit naff next the piano black original ? If you do not mind me asking what was the cost for a replacment set?

Hi mate keep me posted with the end result would love to see this ?Is the full set piano black or the normal silver colour?

not sure, it was £130 I think for the whole set. yes, the oem piano black has a deep shine to it, but this one didn't look as having a deep finish and I am very fussy, so couldn't have it :P
 
Keep us posted,

I brought a Carbon leather centre section of eBay about a year ago and I'm yet to fit it because I thing it will look a bit crap with the remaining silver trim. The other reason is that i can't be arsed to take the half the car apart to fit it.
