Focal IFBMW-S 4" 10cm 2-Way Component Car Speakers for BMW

I can't find the dimensions of the speakers anywhere, I did ask focal for the dimensions last week, but as yet they haven't gotten back to me.

If they fit the doors ok I may end up getting two sets but just using the mid range out of the second set to replace the oem speakers behind the seats, not in the sub cubby holes because i like having the extra storage there for my hats :)

Oh atm i just have the basic 6 speaker setup.

Idealy I would like to fit Focal ES 100 K with some BMW speaker adapters but was told there is no space for the crossover behind the door card, and I don't want to start cutting it up to fit it in the pocket at the bottom because I like the stock look.

I went for these on recommendation https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BUPR54S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for the doors, although the information I received on fitment wasn't quite as reliable. I ended up needing to use my own extra long screws. Your example doesn't look to have that issue but I can't vouch for the proportions.

I also went for these for behind the seats https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002BRUT4C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which I haven't got around to fitting yet. I'm hoping I don't run into the same kind of problems.

I don't have rear subwoofers in mine either so I've gone for a used one of these off ebay to add some punch to the base. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kicker-11...183045?hash=item2f0c618ec5:g:5KgAAOSwwrtZyPGQ

These were recommendations for getting the best sound out of the six speaker setup. I'm hoping the improvement in sound compensates for the issues with fitting them.

thanks for the reccomendations on what your using.

The ETONs are exellent speakers, because I listen to classical music at times, I changed from ETON to focal in my last car, becase the crisp sound of the focals suited that type of sound much better.

Hmmm I hadn't given much though to using an under seat sub :/ now you have me thinking again a small active sub under each seat could work.

I think that would sound pretty impressive, and they be a much better fit under the seat being 10cm smaller than the kicker... You've gone and got me re-thinking now too!!

I only have a the basic 6 speaker setup too and have done a lot of research on the best way to give it a quality noticeable upgrade. My conclusion after all this was actually that the front end is already pretty good with solid bass from the footwell woofers and the tweeters in the doors seem to compliment that well enough.

The 4" drivers behind the seats are another matter entirely. They seem woefully underpowered, and don't have much clarity at all. Not too surprising I guess given their bandwidth is probably in the region of 120Hz - 5Khz.

Changing them out is a right royal pain in the arse but the wiring to them is fairly easy to access. I settled on a pair of decent 6"x 9" coaxials to fit in to the two cubby holes (you can always put your hats in the glove box ) driven by an amp that can accept high level inputs (from the rear 4" drivers) and auto on (so you don't need to run a separate enable cable).

The components I settled on are:

Hertz HCX 690 3way 6"x9" coaxials..... http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/hertz-hi-energy-hcx-690-3-way-6x9-coaxial-speaker
Hertz HCP 2X amp http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/amplifiers/two-channel-amps/hertz-hcp-2x-stereo-2-channel-amplifier

I think this is the simplest install to give you the biggest difference.

I too am happy with footwell speakers, but the door tweeters do need an upgrade, and adding the extra mid range to the doors would mean the fade could be brought forward and kind of negate the behind the seat speakers. I know its not the usual preference but i prefer my highs to come from the front, which is why I just want to replace the rears with a pair of the same type of mid range ones in the doors.

I am going to go all blue peter and cut up a cerial box so its the same size as the under seat sub and see what sort of clearence there is under there.

I think when you look at what's involved in changing your rears, you may reconsider that! Would be awesome if those covers just clipped on but they form part of the whole rear fascia which has to be removed to access the speaker mounting screws.

I think you'll have plenty of room under there. Mine goes under but it's a bit bulky and probably an inch longer than I'd prefer it to be so that it would be properly hidden. I may need to rethink and mount it on the lower back behind the seat which I was really trying to avoid.

I've deceided to just jump in and order my prefered set the Focal ES 100 K after finding this on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192272722053

Just going to plasti dip spray the adaptors black and try to zip tie/velcro the crossover somewhere after wrapping with foam tape to prevent rattles.

I tried the cut to size cerial box under the seats and it fit fine, so I will be installing 2 x focal ibus 20 under the seats once I have had a chance to see and jugde them myself, going to pop along to an audio installer who has one in his car next week.

Keep me posted on your findings as I may be interested in those under seat subs myself.
