Has anyone here supercharged the 2.5 177BHP E85?

Per thread title,

if so, what sort of power did you make and what kit/costs were involved please?

Many thanks.

I’m undecided about what to do next.

I’ve always wanted a Monaco E85, and I’ve found a mint low mileage one, but it’s the N52 177BHP 2.5 - current car is a 3.0Si and previous Z4 was a mapped 20i E89.

I let go of my previous E89 before playing about with suspension options, and wonder if I should have persevered. Have to admit I’ve looked at the ‘for sale’ threadfor your Atacama a few times, but it’s a bit rich for me (I do realise you plowed a whole load of money into it)

Also keep looking at Z4M’s…. Just undecided  :?

Yes super charging certainly makes those E85s scoot along..you are definitely then into "I'm spending more money on upgrades than the car is worth" type land..which I know well! :tumbleweed:

Some people like to just try as many 'stock' cars as they can..I've always kept most of my toys for quiate a while and modded them either lightly or more so..

No right or wrong..been on lots of runs with all sorts of zeds and all sort sof drivers..we've managed to get the slow guys in their under pwoered zeds to go quite quickly and seen quite a few people turn up in heavy artillery only to be chewing their bumpers.

I too used to be undecided but now I'm not so sure.. :driving:

That particular VF kit isn't compatible with the N52 engine, only the M54. However, ESS do an N52 supercharger kit giving 80 - 100hp  https://www.torqen.uk/21739-ess-n52-vt1-supercharger-system-gen2.html

How doe the clutch hold up?

I notice on a lot of the turbo dyno tunes they have to hold back the torque to stop overwhelming the clutch?

Hmm, that’s a lot of cash to get a 177 up to/near 3.0Si performance levels. I guess torque may be better, so could be faster real world…. But a lot more expensive than the M54 group buy. I think this idea is dead and I’ll consider other options instead.

If you were willing to wait infinitas/g power have told me they are developing a kit for N52 engines and should be around same price as their m54 kits

Editing a quote is a dangerous thing..I think True Blue said that not me!

FWIW I think its a bargain! :driving:

An E89 30i wth a supercharger would be an interesting alternative to a N54 35i /35is?

How reliable that would be over the miles compared to a N54 not sure..

Don't know anything about ESS or VF N52 installs. My Infinitas kit is only mild with an increase of about 50hp and torque up to about 290 Nm so fingers crossed the clutch should be fine. Planning on fitting a new one in the autumn anyway

There's a £10k 30i on Autotrader right now, Cat N with only 32k miles.... by the time you've added supercharger, coilovers, ARBs etc it's still probably way under what a 32k miles 35is would cost... but arguably better, more unique and with that addictive supercharger whine!

I'm starting to rethink my life choices

yes probably OK..it these ones that add 100 to 150 nm that seem to be the clutch friers...

You should do it..spend a vast amount of money, re-inventing the wheel... :poke: :tumbleweed:

I wouldn't feel alone (apart from all those other super charger boys)....

I think repainting it orange would make it too expensive a project, otherwise I would

Well the UK did get 7 Monaco Blue MRs and they can be supercharged too!

Yes, but who really needs that much power in a weekend road car…. But I do like the thought process Iain
