That's what I'm thinking , the loaded tyre would work but what happens to the opposing side , surely it's gonna scrub the outside edge and only run on a fraction of it's surface ?
When I raced on ovals we used to run different profile tyres on the same axle to help turn in with a welded diff but we only turned left , the whole chassis was cambered so to speak , and it made sense to us as the outside travelled further than the inside .
I can't see them being better than a track tyre and geo set up ?
I'm sure someone better qualified than me can comment .
 
I agree it all seems a bit odd.

But in the video the independent guy liked them. I would love to have a try myself and see.
