Has anyone had the iPod kit retrofitted?

Probably not really (as in no iDrive/Satnav)
cost at dealer in 2010 c £300 if I have extracted the costs correctly for that item, inc fitting
The radio takes over the ipod /etc and you can only play 6x specially created playlists
which you select via headunit
The unit replaces the CD multi unit in interface terms so works in that way and you can not select below the playlist level.
Really depends on exactly how you want to use it with which Apple products
Better solutions and cheaper
You need to define what you are trying to achieve and with what apple bits

Sorry i should have mentioned i have iDrive and the Sat Nav screen. on a '59 car. I thought there was a proper interface now that let you choose artists, albums, etc and not the basic one that allocated playlists to the memory buttons.

I thought Intravee and Dice were for the E85/86.

They are. I missed that this was an E89 thread

I thought the E89 iPod integration was supposed to be excellent. Album art and everything

On a 59 car With idrive there is iPod integration via a USB slot in the arm rest, IF USB was specced (it's standard now it was optional 3 years ago). If you have USB you can buy a cable to connect the iPod in, I have this. No album art on a 59 tho, that only came about a couple of years later in what is called the combox upgrade.

Is it really worth buying a cable for iPod in the armrest. What comes on the screen etc.

Can't have too many toys can you? :D
