Has anybody disconnected the exhaust flap on 335i

Exactly as the thread states.

I've looked around and seen it done on the 3 series by removing the connector on the actuator, but have you done this and what do you think?

Yes I did this, it makes start up quite a lot louder (the low notes, almost making it sound 'blown'). No perceptible change in motorway 'drone'. It also makes the loud crack you get on WOT at first start up much louder and start sooner.

I unblocked the pipe eventually as the noise at start up was too loud and sounded a little rough. However I've since had to block the pipe again as the flap in the exhaust is now rattling at startup/load with it set at factory (unblocked) and under insured warranty, its not covered by BMW, therefore the cost to replace will be including the entire back box on that side. I'm not doing that, I'd rather just disable it.

I might have a go, as its reversible and by the sound of it there are no fault codes.

I do miss my Full Milltek system from my 3.0 e85. God damn that was a beautiful sound at full chat!

I've opened mine and much prefer the sound at start up and low rpms. Sounds better when blatting about at e.g. 2000-3500rpm I think? Not sure when the std valve is meant to open?

No error codes and very easily reversible :)

FWIW....I discovered a pinprick hole in the O/S back box (on rear face just above where exhaust pipe was welded on) when the car was just 2 years old
BMW covered this under warranty :D :D
They changed BOTH back boxes......so if you ever had to do just ONE, it MIGHT not be an option :o :o :o
