I stand corrected- however I would still stand by putting 18s on. I have an SE and it looks perfect with 18s- hence the reason I have never notices the lower ride on sports on any meets!
Sorry to badger, but are these any good as i'm considering lowering the 17'sMy advice it to think about not only the looks but how lowering the car will effect its usability on the roads, I put some eibachs on my mx5 and have regretted it ever since. From 2008 the roads around where I live have been terrible, obviously the council cant afford to repair/relay them and as we seem to be getting this sort of weather every year causing potholes and cracks everywhere. Dont get me wrong on the right roads it meant I could confidently push the handling of the car further than perviously and was a hoot but 50% or more of the time it was not comfortable. How often do you drive the car and for what purposes?
Just remember that the 17" with 45-profile tyres is near enough the same diameter as the 18" with 40/35-profile, so regardless of wheel size the springs will give the same height.
IME Eibachs (not just on the Z4) have actually IMPROVED the ride quality: better small bump reaction and over sharp edges/ridges. The only issue with the Z4 is limited suspension travel, but you get that with standard springs anyway.
