Harry's Lap Timer

Hi All,

After a bit advice - I am going on the annual "ring" trip (sounds bad I know) later this month and have downloaded Harry's Lap Timer..... problem is I dont know how best to use it.

I know that you can use it for overlays on a go pro video and I think that you can use it with the iphone camera as well.

I am just after people experiences of how best to use it.

Thanks all.

Are you going for the bank holiday weekend? If so, I can help you set it up as I'm there too.

It'll be my first outing on my new suspension, so hopefully I'll be much faster now.

HLT is quite simple to use - once you've got everything connected to each other. Have you also got an OBD2 dongle for the throttle position, RPM, etc?

My first trip I just used the iPhone pointing out of the windscreen, but it was very shaky and kept trying to focus on dead flies on the windscreen.

I also find that it sometimes loses the OBD data, so you get one lap with all the gauges showing (once you've merged them), and another lap with half of the gauges showing.

I am going to be there on Weds 20th and Thurs 21st evenings - so not for the actual weekend - shame as it would have been good to meet.

I dont have an OBD dongle - where is best to get one?

It will also be my first outing on the new suspension - which did you go for? I have got the KW V3s

If you will be there on the weds or Thurs let me know.

Thanks again for the help mate

Travelling over Friday morning and coming back Tuesday with a few BMWs and a GTR. Normally stick to long weekends as we can spread our 50 laps out over more days if there's bad weather/accidents. Last year we got to the barrier by 8am and it didn't open all day. Just when everyone else had headed off on their trips home we drove past on the way to dinner and saw it was open. Ended up getting some of the clearest laps we've ever had.

I got the GoPoint BT1 dongle as it was one of the few recommended wireless ones compatible with Harry's LapTimer at the time (v12 when I 1st bought it). There's usually a list of the compatible ones on the HLT website.

Don't know if HLT has multiple versions like it did before, but I went for the top level one as it gave a few extra features which I thought would be useful.

As for suspension...I finally settled on the Bilstein B16/PSS10 as my car is a daily driver (25k per year) and I didn't want to have to compromise too much on road manners or ride height.

BTW, v19.0.0 has just been released.

ETA - don't bother updating yet as it has a bug which means you can't select which track you want to time - v19.0.1 is out soon :headbang:

mmm-five, Thanks for all the advice mate - apreciate it - I wont update yet then - that would be a nightmare.

I was thinking of the Bilsteins but went for KW V3s in the end - think i've just got them sorted.

Looking forward to it and will put some posts up when i'm back.

Thanks again mate
