Inspection I done today.

Quoted £320 including labour and VAT. Got it down to £285. Could have had it for around £260 from Douglas Park but the car has been serviced from new and any work done at Fairbairns Glasgow.

Just over 2 hours, car washed and hoovered. Running better than it was as I had run it own to 50 miles on the service indicator. Next Oil Service an 15995 miles. That'll probably read at 14000 thrashed miles.

Though I had some rust appearing on the shoulder of the drivers door but it was just some really ingrained dirt. (Shame on me for not cleaning it earlier). They had a look and explained how the Anti Corrosion Warranty works. Seems they've got someone that comes in once a month to inspect dodgy bodywork still under the 4, 5 or 6 year Anti Corrosion.

I have always found them to be very helpful although whoever I speak to on the phone sometimes seems to have an attitude problem.

They're getting me prices for Cruise Control to be retro fitted.

It usually takes nearly an hour to get home from Giffnock and it's a case of getting home then returning to pick up the car 20 minutes after I get home. I suggested to them that they should have Wireless Broadband Access for customers as it would be handy for me while I'm waiting to get online for email etc.

What model year is your car, as it may be a very quick and easy self install for cruise control

It's probably one of the first Z4's that came out.

2003 2.5

I'd prefer to let them fit anything to it although if it's a crazy price then I'd need to think about it.

Sure. You know the part is 100 gbp, and 10 minutes to fit. So if it is anything more the say 130 or so, you are being "had" so to speak

Got the quote yesterday for the Cruise Control.

Part £120
Fitting £200 due to 2 hours labour!

Ouch!!!

I see the how-to was GVfB... will see if he doesn't mind adding this to our newly created How-To section.

Hi all

Just noticed this thread. For what its worth, I bought mine from Fairbairns and I was not happy.

I negotiate steering wheel controls to be added to my sport model. when I went to pick it up, I noticed they just fitted a standard SE wheel (with silver trim) and claimed that it was the M wheel but with the silver trim... Not possible - the M wheel has coloured stitching for one. After kicking up a fuss, I got the proper M wheel, but I thought this was sneaky.

The bonnet had a couple of stone chips and I had already asked them if there were any at all and was told no. They repaired it but did not blend the paintwork. This was only evindent after washing the car a couple of times.

I asked for my silver trim door handle to be replaced as it was scratched. When I picked it up, they showed me the scratch had gone, but something didn't seem right.... Would you believe THEY PAINTED IT!?? lol

Next - they told me that the car had only been owned by one person - BMW head office and when I got the V5 through it showed two... The dealership registered the car for themselves...

Next, when I collected the car, there were 1,200 more miles on the clock than on the paperwork....

Anyway, I do love my car, but cant say the same for the dealership if I am honest. I would not say I could "recommend" them!

Just my experience anyway....

See my post in Other Marques under Audi S3 for my comments of these monkeys at Arnold Clark, sorry, Harry Fairbairns.
