Hardtop Time ...First Time !

For those experienced Hardtoppers.
I am ready !
Install Kit was there ..

But ..A little advice needed:

The bag of goodies I got with my hardtop includes the tool and the 2 covers.
However there are two sets of other plastic parts.

Something called a stopper ..#51 24 0 309 364
There are 2 of them and they look like sections of 1/2" plastic pipe about 5/8" long

Another pair of unnamed parts ..
Look like 3/4" pipe about 1/2" long and they are split longitudinally ...


Any assistance with what / where these parts are used for would be appreciated.

first ones stop the boot opening too high

the second ones clip around the two vertical 'things' that slot into the holes in the car either side

I got info on the 'boot stoppers" So I understand that ..

The other parts ? ..
So the Roof has two "pegs" that mate with the hardtop install kit ..The pegs are what you call vertical things ?
I assume you mean that these clips take up the slack fit between these two assemblies.
If Ive got it right ...
Do I slip the clips into the hole or port on the install kit ?
Or do I slip them over the vertical things aka pegs first
and then attempt to mate the things

OK ...
So far only 75% done
De-covered the hardtop and waited for an unsuspecting pedestrian to give me a hand with the lift.
Things went well with hardly any destruction ...
The two large pegs and the drivers side clip went in no problem.
The other pin and hook ??
Seems reluctant
Spent about an hour trying to figure out what went wrong.
This roof has never been installed and was in storage for probably 6 years.
So the weatherstrip has never been compressed.

My guess is that I have to swoop the leading edge of the roof into position first
and then drop the large pegs into their ports.

Have I missed something ?

ps ...I did open the front 'hooks' in case you thought I missed that
As well as unlocking the peg locks.

In the daylight, things always look better ...

After much huffing and puffing ..
The problem was the alignment of the fastening devices.
3 out of 4 just wouldn't cut it.
Final solution ...
I loosened the four 1/2" bolts mounting the pins in the hardtop.
This allowed for some maneuvering of the top and success !
All mounts are now engaged !
Then with the seat backs forward, I used a 1/2" wrench to snug up the bolts !




Job done ....
Later I'll check the windows ...

Having the manual certainly demystifies things.
I'll set up the clearances later this afternoon.
First problem was with cj10jeeper's custom measuring fixture.
I showed the pic to the kid at Home Depot and he was confused because he wasn't sure if it was metric or imperial.
So I ended up buying these"

No to worry. I'll have enough to measure with for every seasonal change for many years.

Luckily I managed to fine tune the top and here it is
