Hardtop stops?

Hi all, it’s finally time for the hardtop to go on!!

Can somebody link a photo of what the hardtop stops look like and how/where I can get some?

Thanks :)

Theyre just rubber tubes, that go over the bump stop,, you will be lucky to find some OEM ones, so might pay to get some tube off ebay, you just need to measure the diameter of the stop so the internal of the tube is correct (You can see this when you open the boot), they are from memory about 5mm thick, but someone might be able to say exactly what size

Is this what you mean Jingle ?

A couple of years back I had some hard polyurethane pipe knocking about in the garage which looked as if it may just fit over the small stops on the boot lid hinges. With the help of some GT85 spray I managed to 'persuade' it over the stops and trimmed off the excess with a sharp blade. The boot lid comes to rest vertically a little more gently now and the gap is a much healthier 10mm or so

That’s exactly it! Although I didn’t use them last year, after hearing a horror story of somebody’s rear screen shattering when the lid hot the glass I want to be prepared this year!!

I’ll see what I can find. Thanks :)

Your car should have them a Jamie. Uk cars came with hardtop prep.

Oh I’ll go check, I always assumed “hardtop prep” meant all the bits it plugs into near the drains

Nope not on there, and when open at about 90-95% it’s pretty damn close as you can see.... I don’t want to risk it in case I do ever open it 100%

Was hoping somebody had managed to find a piece of plastic tube or something and could just cut off about 50 pieces and then just post them out at like £3 a pair or something

If you've ever wall mounted a TV the kit usually includes plastic spacers like that....

That I have done... and a box of fixings... hmmm and I’ve used some fat black plastics for my front splitter mounting.... time to look in the shed

Hi Jingle - I have a lathe and it should not be hard to turn some of these out from HDPE or similar (or even brass if you want to be bling like paullyjay :) ) - I'll see what I have over the weekend, if I can turn somthing up you can have it for the price of postage if you like?

Would be helpfull if anyome can confirm the external dimension on an original part if they can?

Cheers

I’d be interested in a set! Not fussed about the material, so long as it isn’t brittle? I think you’ll want about 3mm like the brass ones? Otherwise it may not give you enough clearance on the glass?

Mine are VERY chunky on purpose - below are the measurements for reference and photos to show how far the boot opens... Mine are 5mm, but you could easily take the thickness down to 3mm and still have plenty of clearance to the rear window...

Those measurements looks perfect for ferretAFV to see if he can come up with something?

Keep us updated as defo interested

Thanks for great pictures paullyjay, very helpful - I only had enough material to knock a test peice up today, but concept seems good. I will make up some more HDPE rod and make a couple of sets, but weekedays get busy so might be looking at next weekend.... Cheers
