Hardtop Ready?

Hi Everyone

Just in the process of buying a Hardtop for my 2004 E85 2.5L from a fellow Forum member.

He has sent me a link as to what the area behind the doors should look like in order for the Hardtop to drop into place, but I checked my car this morning and its not quite the same :( , so was just wandering if there was a factory option for Hardtop preparation which wasnt chosen when the original owner bought the car?

Heres a picture of the area behind the doors once the hood is lowered.

The covers mentioned are just behind the glass in the first photo you posted. Under that is a circular hole, which the hardtop 'rods' sit in.
 
Thanks for clearing that up, now really looking forward to putting the top on next week :thumbsup:
And once the top is in place, would I need to do any adjustments to get it nice and tight?
 
If you are lucky no. If not there is adjustment where the spikes fit into the holes but dont over do it as it pulls the hard top down which inturn will rub. Instructions suggest a 5mm gap around the bottom edge of the hard top. You may get some wind noise along the leading edge where it sits on the top windscreen rubber, i had this but just fitted a strip of draft excluder which sorted it.

Thanks all for the tips, really looking forward to picking it up next week, and can also sit on the fence without the need to side with either convertible vs coupe because I have the best of both worlds :lol:

Nah you will still get moaned at if you put it on and take it off at the wrong time. :fuelfire:
If you plan on storing it then i would recommend getting a good solid trolley. If it doesnt come with a storage bag then i have one that came with my trolley that you are welcome to. :thumbsup:
 
Thanks for the offer Rusky, i think the seller has a bag already and is throwing it in as part of the sale.

Will most likely invest in a trolley to store away in the warmer season, and have the hardtop on over winter.

So the hardtop will probably be on for best part of the year then.... :roll:
