Hardtop questons

Hi, thinking about buying a used hardtop from ebay. However, I have some questions.
1- Is a fitting kit required
2- If so are they expensive
3- How does the heated rear screen work, there does not appear to be any plug available for it.
4- How long does it take to fit
5- Are they worth having

1. It's standard on all UK Roadsters
2. NA
3. It works through the mounting sockets for the hardtop
4. 2 mins or so (3 bolts)
5. Most definitely. Looks good, protects the soft top and motor, quieter, warmer and more secure.

Daffy is spot on, but for clarity for Q4 think of '3 bolts' as 90 degree twists of locks that operate complex clamps, rather than bolts as in nuts and bolts.

as above ..................... right now prices are arount a grand for a good one.

and fitting, it took me longer to get it out of the garage than it did to fit it on the car ...........

5- Are they worth having........

1. remember the soft-top is more than capable of wintering in the UK, unless you're in the extreme north or Wales maybe.
2. you lose any spontanious roof dropping drives when the winter sun is out - surprisingly quite often.
3. I think you need 2 pairs of hands to hoist the roof on
4. you need to house the roof in the summer (or maybe sub-let to a local vagrant?)
5. I'm not a fan of them and think they look bulbous :fuelfire:
6. I have a snug warm garage so best probably ignore me
7. if I didnt have a snug warm garage I'd seriously consider one, with special consideration to 2.

Item 3. Install a hoist - http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20467&p=291576&hilit=hoist#p291576

In terms of are they worth having then this is another of those marmite questions and no right answer
Roadster or Coupe
Manual or Auto
Stubby or not
Hardtop or not

I too have a warm garage, but fitted an electric hoist so can lift the roof off in under 3 minutes if the fancy takes me. I actually love the look and enjoy having 2 cars - Winter and Summer. Storage is easy enough on a stand or hanging on the wall.

As an aside you'll certainly get back whatever you pay. I paid £800 3 years ago and could sell it in an instant for £1,000+
