Hardtop questions

Hi, I have recently bought a 57 soft top and have the chance to buy a hardtop (in the right colour) from an 06.

- will this fit?
- where can I buy the Allen key / tool needed to fit this?

Thanks for responses,
Lee

Just wondrin'...
On a 2005 pre-facelift car, which Vinchecker says has hard-top prep, what is needed if I look for a hardtop?
Are there any brackets required, or tools other than the cranked allen key that comes in the car's tool kit?

cheers

From what I can gather you dont need anything else. There should be two bits of trim but these are not 'needed' as such.
Struggling to find an after market Allen key, but read elsewhere on here that you can use standard tools.

Yes you can use standard tools, the covers are only cosmetic but a nice finishing touch - one covers the hole in the top middle and 2 more cover the gaping holes either side behind seats

You don't need a special BMW Allen key to fit the hardtop. Any Allen key of the correct size will work.

The BMW one is simply 2 Allen key heads on one piece of metal.

Perfect, thanks for the clarity guys. will go armed with a set of Allen keys.

Anyone have any guidance on removing the canvas roof?

thanks

Seriously? You lower the roof - the hard top then sits over the folded flattened soft top

There are no dumb questions... only those you don't yet know the answers to!
Cheers for the responses guys!
