Hardtop Glass Broken

Hi,

Went to get out my hardtop to place on my car for the winter, started to unzip cover and glass fell out, looked inside and the screen had shattered with several large holes in it.

Has this happened to anyone else? I've booked Autoglass to come and do it but have visions of them turning up with the screen from the soft top!

Do you store the hardtop on a stand or hanging up ?
I always hang mine up in the garage in the zip-up cover. I don't like the idea of it standing on it's lower glass edge on the stand. Surely your hardtop must have had a knock to break the glass ? :(
 
Hi,

It is on a stand and thinking about it I can only assume that it must have been hit by something pretty hard to shatter the glass. Having four children I am suspicious!

I think the hardtop glass is unavailable, I’ve read of others who’ve found it a discontinued item :(

I messaged Autoglass to confirm they weren't turning up with the soft top glass and they assured me but now I'm worried.
 
I have mine zipped up in it's original cover and resting glass-down on an old tyre. Been fine for the past 3 years. *Touch wood*

Will be highly encouraging to learn if Autoglass can actually supply the hard top glass. I might just be tempted to buy a spare off them. Mine got chipped after a clumsy drop. Nothing drastic but it bugs the hell out of my OCD :(

Maybe they think you’ve got a e86 or e89? I’m definitely interested to hear what they turn up with!

I will let you all know, they do have the reg but I would not be surprised

Not a chance they will turn up with soft top glass as that is not replaceable. New hood required for that.
 
OK so my fears were unjustified. Nice piece of new Pilkington glass fitted to my hardtop ready to go on car once soft top dried in the sun. Great job Autoglass
 
I'm amazed, in a good way. I've read several posts here and on Facebook where hard tops were sold for relative peanuts due to a smashed screen, and the unavailability of replacement glass.

Think your camera is autofocusing through the window. Try it again with a piece of white paper behind the glass and it will probably work better.
Apart from that, what a result!
