Hard wiring a traffic cam

Hi all,

After being nearly killed by an ar_ehole in a VW T5 'shed' today who swerved towards me on purpose!
I have decided to fit a traffic camera.
Buying the Nextbase 512GW which has a 'parking impact' function so needs to be connected to a permanent live.
Camera has a 'battery discharge protection' circuit so no worries of a flat battery.

My question is where best and how to connect it to 12v.
I do not have the 12V socket in the passenger footwell I am afraid, would have been ideal..

Thinking I can tap it off the live feed before the switch to the courtesy lights on the roof console!!??

Many thanks chaps..

I hard wired my nextbase recently and created a thread on it. I'll dig it out shortly. You definitely want to buy the hardwired kit though which is only another £20

The hardwired kit includes prewired connectors and fuse wires to tap into fuse number 8 which is also for the cigarette lighter

Yeah hardwired mine as well that has ParkingGuard (which is the same thing as yours)
Mine is wired via piggy-back fuse points in the fuse box above the passenger footwell. Cant remember the fuse points I used now but if greg81 doesn't have specific ones in his thread then I'll check mine and post back.
Meanwhile, good decision, I think we all should have them.

Fuse 8 is the one you want :)
Is fuse 8 the switched live for turning it on or is it the permanant live for the parking facility?
ParkingGuard on mine is wired to both switched and permanant circuits as you need both.

Ahh, my bad, I misread. It is not

Mcbutler,

I recently did this with a parking guard too, requiring a permanent live as well. I used fuse 8 for the ignition live (switched live) and then fuse 77 for the interior footwell lighting for permanent live. I've posted some useful info below.
