Hard top prices

 Mostly Holland. Sometimes UK.
Is Euro800 (GBP677) a good price to pay for a second hand hard top? Its in great condition and is the right colour.
Am in negotiations with a seller over here in Holland and it looks like it might go my way.
He was asking Eur1295 originally and I countered with an offer of 800 and I'm standing firm at that.
I dont really need it. Just thought it might come in handy in winter if I'm driving the z then....

I've certainly seen nothing in great condition under £700 so you're in the right kind of area

If it's in great condition and the right colour like you say then yes it's a great price

YESS! Seller's agreed to €800. Get in!
Just have to get the blinkin car working now so I can go and pick it up...drrr

That will be amongst the cheapest I've seen an undamaged one for a long time.

Prices fluctuate based upon colour and more importantly time of year. Expect once the Summer ends and people realise they are about to have their Zed outdoors for a Winter that prices climb to nearer £900 with some selling for over £1k and the odd Ebay sale nearer to £1,200

Wait until Spring when owners sell and cannot store them to see odd colours drop c£700

Good news is that without doubt years later they can be resold at what you paid

Aye! Very happy with that!
Just hope someone doesnt sweep in under me with a better offer and nabs it before the weekend.....

That's a good pre-winter buy if it comes off

About five years ago I incorrectly predicted that hardtop prices surely had to soften as the cars aged, but no, in the five years the cars have probably devalued by 50% and hardtop top prices are rock steady. I'm waiting for the first zed to cost less than a hardtop :)

Yeah, seemed almost too easy to stand firm and get him to accept eur800.
Only caveat is its a 3hr round trip to Limburg from where I am in Utrecht. Small price to pay tho maybe.
U really think z prices will dip so low??Damage-repairable cat c d's maybe....

Only 3hr round trip :poke: that's positively local.

Some of the guys over here have driven damn near the length of the country for a good example in the right colour.

Enjoy the :driving: and the difference on the way back is quite astonishing

Haha yes, i suppose I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth!

Will post some pics when its in the bag....

Hope it all works out Chris. I was one of the guys who drove the length of the country (well ok - half the length, but still a 580 mile round trip) to buy mine. I paid £950 for a sapphire black one in mint condition with all the fitting and covers plus a stand and storage bag.

Aye Marlon, beginning to realise what a good deal ive stumbled upon based on others efforts here to get hold of one for themselves. Just hope he doesnt sell it to someone else before weekend.
Anything i should look out for re fitments etc?
I saw in the fitting doc that it has 2 small plastic covers for the locking mech either side when roof is on - do they come with the roof or roof prep kit?
The prep kit is already installed on mine but i dont have those covers, only the receptacle covers for when the roof is not installed.
The electrical connection for the heated window element looks a bit flimsy and how is it operated, as i dont see a dash switch. On all the time?

Reading this thread has me chuckling.

Bought a mint mk2 Mx5 hard top my son at the weekend. £875  Personalised plate and mint condition car thrown in for free. :D

Mine came will all three covers - one for each side and another for the middle top front locking hole. I assume the rear de-mist is operated by the same dash switch used for the glass rear window in the soft top. The connection to the switch must be made when the hard top is dropped into the receiving holes and locked in place. Although I've briefly used the hard top after I bought it I didn't need to use the rear de-mist so this is all guess work.

Yeah suppose same button to operate would make sense if connector junctions into same harness for the existing window.
Wonder if he has the little stand thingy with it. Must remember to ask....

A hardtop should come with 2 side covers and front centre cover, plus the locking key (like an allen key)

Most have the fabric cover/bag

Heater connects automatically as soon as the hood is fitted.

Roof mechanism is disabled and window funtions know roof is fitted

Anything else?

Shouldn't it also come with the stand (which folds down so that you can fit it in the boot of the Z4).
