If my car is going to be a DD getting the hardtop on solo will be a must.

Any cheap solutions for a hoist?

Ps have I mentioned that owning an M is not that expensive lol

Speak to ranski - he's got one. Think it is the OEM BMW one.

As bing mentioned I bought oem for just over £300 - they go on eBay for £200 - £250 so you will make 80% of your money back when you come to sell up

Or another option is to make your own like cjeep did

Just had a look on the link, what parts are needed (numbers).

Thanks

Considering the following:

Ordering one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-3-Ser-Z3-Z4-Z8-Hardtop-Hoists-3-Lift-Options-/290953916556?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43be34708c

Then using just harness part with one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Maxtra-Heavy-250KG-Electric-Hoist-Lifting-Winch-580W-/230717984275?pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item35b7dd0e13

Still going to be over £250 but I think it would be quite good??

If I could just buy the harness it would be great, however they said they will only sell the whole system :(

Also found this looks a little like the BMW one?

Said he will take £200 posted, sounds great but got so many things I want (need).

you need

BMW Adapter 82710146767 (specific to Z4)
BMW Universal Lift 82719404400 (any BMW)

I think I paid around £300 3 years ago, may have gone up in price since

why not use some straps and an electric whinch. you are correct it only needs to raise a couple of feet, its just getting around it if it hangs to low in the garage

Cj10jeeper made the below

I bought the Universal Lift from eBay a while ago for much less than the £229.01 that BMW want, but I baulked at also paying the cost of the Z4-specific adapter (currently listed at £187.01 from Coopers). I was also told that the universal "strap" normally used by BMW (and which was only about £30, from memory) would not work with the Z4 hard top, as it wouldn't balance correctly.

How complex is the Z4 adapter - is it something that could easily be fabricated by somebody with the right knowledge/equipment?
