Hard Top Finding/ Buying Tip

So, having not long had my saphire black 3.0, I decided that I wanted a hard top for over the winter months. I waited around for a while and came close on a couple! Having seen the issues with prices and parts, i'm glad I waited and did my research...!

Anyway, I picked mine up yesterday and I'm really happy with it. I know that a few others are also looking, so thought I'd add my limited experience to the forum.

It seems that hard tops are fetching very strong money on eBay at the moment, so I searched on Gumtree, eBay, autotrader and piston heads for saphire black z4's currently being sold WITH hardtops, and simply e-mail around to see if they'd be prepared to sell separately.

In this way, I managed to find a second hand dealer that sold me a near mint hard top with all fittings and tools (side lock covers and feet included....!) for the reasonable sum of £750.

I guess this means the dealer gets a little extra profit as the two items probably fetch more separately than together.

So, if looking, why not try doing the same....

Hope this is of help to someone.

 Top work. I'm going to try this myself. However, please delete this post now and it can be our secret.

This chap seems to be selling his zed, with an option to buy the black hard top at 500!!!

Might be worth someone dropping him a line...

.

I actually tried this with a few and they all said they were keeping it as a set with the car but obviously paid off to be persistent, I found one in the end anyway.

Good luck with this one. I ended up paying £750 cash to a used car dealership in a brown envelope. Was worth it though. Transforms the look of the car, and only takes a minute to remove it if the forecast looks good!

I think a few dealers don't know their value. Might be worth adding a cash offer to a cold e-mail in order to tempt them.

I actually sourced a hard top to enhance selling my current E85 2.5 on 03 plate. I went up to Scotland for it. It was the wrong colour but I had it re done inside and out. Came with the book, tool, interior trim so I'm well pleased. I'm still getting offers just for the top but I obviously want to sell the car too.
